CD is out today. It's a great score. Desplat keeping it his own again. Action material doesn't quite progress to where you want it to, but the tender moments are wonderful (and dominate the album). There are two Snape related cues in particular which are just excellent.

Once I've actually had a chance to see pt2 (and God only knows when that will be; we're on holiday next week, and nowhere near a cinema) I shall be ordering the CDs for both parts - I was kind of hoping for a set of the pair of them, but never mind.

I've booked tickets for a Sunday showing. Was tough finding a good cinema in London not showing it in 3D (Everyman on Baker Street is running it normally, thank goodness).

It's a shame they did not package both scores together I agree. I have yet to listen to them back to back. I can er... sort you out... with some bonus tracks from the stupidly expensive edition pt1 score release sometime.

Sadly, yes. Digital only.

There's a chance it may hit CD in future (specialty label Intrada's new deal with Disney recently kicked off with a CD release for UP), but so far there's no word. There is a complete score bootleg floating around, sourced from the cast & crew complete score CDs Pixar produce for all their staff upon the release of every movie.

Don't think much of Giacchino's score for Cars 2, I have to say. Finn McMissile's riff is annoying, and gets far too much usage. Feels more like an homage to Arnold than to Barry. Maybe Incredibles set my expectations too high.

Well, some 29 months after the last one, we have a new John Williams score. His music for Tintin is delightful - a bit like Indiana Jones, Hook and Potter mixed into a blender with a both of Catch me if you Can's jazzy charms thrown in for good measure.

Thankfully it's only a month or so until we get another Williams score (War Horse).

The real question is if they'll include the cereal song. :-)

Anywho, I finally found a copy of Batman Begins. Does anybody have an idea why they went with the Latin naming scheme for each song?

CD plus the mp3 download, I think. I like physical copies when they're not too expensive (I'm looking at you, LaLaLand!)

From the samples I sense that score is heavy on the ambient noise. I'm sure it will work perfectly for the film but I'm not hearing anything there yet that leaves me saying "yes, I want to listen to three hours of this outside of the movie."

Been listening a lot to The Miners' Hymns. It's stunning. Like Godspeed You! Black Emperor performing Arvo Part while Sigur Ros produce.

All the specialist labels are gradually getting through re-issuing all the Star Trek scores in expanded/complete form. This time it's the turn of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home from Intrada. The particularly nice thing about this release is it is not limited. Some people really dislike this score, but I always had a soft spot for it - especially Rosenman's title theme.

"World premiere release of complete Leonard Rosenman score to all-time classic fourth installment of legendary STAR TREK feature-film franchise, starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, directed by Nimoy. Intrada presentation is part of current ongoing CD restoration series of complete STAR TREK film soundtracks being overseen by Paramount, this one through courtesy of both Paramount, UMG. (Other titles appear on Film Score Monthly, La-La Land labels.) Time travel, whales feature in this particular movie, Rosenman draws inspiration from both in exciting score. Musical ideas are sometimes energetic, exciting, sometimes cerebral, complex. Rosenman even gives thematic attention to Chekov, a franchise rarity! Complete Intrada CD restoration offers full score with previously unreleased cues, versions appearing on 1986 MCA album plus several alternates including Rosenman's unused take on famous Alexander Courage TV theme. Fun to hear Rosenman's own signature brass "pyramid" at climax of Courage's melody! CD even includes wild "I Hate You" by Kirk Thatcher, Mark Mangini that annoys Star Trek crew on San Francsico bus ride. Production by Lukas Kendall, mix & assembly by Mike Matessino plus definitive liner notes by Jeff Bond round out stellar package, itself designed by Joe Sikoryak to comfortably fit in with other STAR TREK feature soundtrack restorations. Leonard Rosenman conducts."

$19.99.

All that remains of Kirk era scores to be re-issued are The Motion Picture and The Undiscovered Country. As yet none of the Next Generation movie era scores have been re-issued either. I'm hoping someone does Undiscovered Country next however as it's a personal favourite.

Giacchino's Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol score is terrific fun, and a step up from his score to M:I 3. It's a bit like the last film's score fused with The Incredibles in places, as perhaps one would have expected.

It's download only until January when the CD surfaces.
