   4. Despicable Me 3 $213,322,700        7             7             5             5             3
   5. Pirates of the Caribbean 5 $170,620,200        7             3                         5           1

   9. Baby Driver $84,233,939                              1
   10. The Mummy (2017) $79,380,625      1             3             7                       1

Here are the current standings. We all took quite a hit with Wonder Woman passing GotG today. Well, actually jubjub gained a few points even though he didn't even have Wonder Woman in his list because it moved GotG down a notch.

I'm glad to see it do so well, except in this context. Right now I have 7 movies that are all 1 spot off their correct positions and not a single one dead on, and Wonder Woman is pretty much what caused that. I really need Apes and Transformers to swap and then hope nothing else makes it into the top 8.

   4. Despicable Me 3 $230,292,465        7             5             7             5             3
   5. Pirates of the Caribbean 5 $171,001,410        7             5             3                       1

   9. Dunkirk $101,317,350        7           10                                     3
   10. Baby Driver $91,967,206                                          1

Here are the standings after this weekend. Dunkirk cracks the top 10 and moves into #9. It should pass Planet of the Apes and probably Transformers soon, but will be interesting to see where it ends up. It is trending ahead of Interstellar, which ended up at $188M (although that was a Nov. release) so it will probably end up in 5 or 6 when all is said and done and could shake things up a bit.

Apes is catching up to Transformers and will probably pass it at some point, but that would probably be it.

Even though I'm in the lead, it's kind of frustrating seeing 8 movies that are all one spot off, but not a single one exactly right (and actually no real chance of any once Dunkirk passes Transformers).

Even more frustrating is seeing this on the website:
Single Biggest Mistake by Shundi:
Putting 'Wonder Woman' at 6th. Moving it instead to 1st would have yielded a total of 84 points for 1st place.

For fun, I decided to take a look at the worldwide box office numbers for this year, and remove the non summer movies up to Baby Driver to see what it would look like if international box office was included.

Rank Title Studio* Worldwide Domestic         % Overseas           %
1 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 BV $860.80 $387.90 45.10% $472.90 54.90%
2 Despicable Me 3 Uni. $826.60 $234.20 28.30% $592.40 71.70%
3 Wonder Woman WB $790.60 $396.70 50.20% $393.90 49.80%
4 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men BV $776.00 $171.10 22.10% $604.90 77.90%
5 Spider-Man: Homecoming Sony $640.50 $284.30 44.40% $356.20 55.60%
6 Transformers: The Last Knight Par. $570.60 $129.00 22.60% $441.60 77.40%
7 The Mummy (2017) Uni. $397.70 $79.80 20.10% $317.90 79.90%
8 Cars 3 BV $269.60 $146.90 54.50% $122.70 45.50%
9 Dunkirk WB $265.70 $112.60 42.40% $153.10 57.60%
10 War for the Planet of the Apes Fox $233.50 $123.10 52.70% $110.30 47.30%
11 Alien: Covenant Fox $232.60 $74.20 31.90% $158.40 68.10%
12 Baywatch Par. $174.00 $58.10 33.40% $115.90 66.60%
13 King Arthur: Legend of the Sword WB $143.50 $39.20 27.30% $104.30 72.70%
14 Baby Driver TriS $140.80 $94.00 66.80% $46.80 33.20%

It is very interesting to see just how much money some of these movies are making overseas as compared to North America. Wonder Woman is split almost 50/50, whereas movies like Pirates, Transformers, and The Mummy, which were probably viewed as disappointments, have nearly 80% of their total gross from overseas, and have done very well overall. The number for Pirates, I think, is especially astounding. $600 mil makes it the top grossing film this summer if you took out the NA numbers.

Although it's not even close to being the top film this year. Beauty and the Beast is #1 overall, but the amazing figure is Fate of the Furious which made $225 mil domestic and just over 1 biiiiiillion dollars worldwide.

Yeah the trend has been going up over the last few years. It is the reason Pacific Rim is getting a sequel.  It really kills me that War of the Planet of the Apes has only done 233 million worldwide.

I've often wondered if the big whizz bang visual effects extravaganzas have an easier ride in overseas territories because they're so much about the visuals that little ends up being lost in translation because their plots and characters are often so disposable.

Still close , I need Apes to keep on it's current pace to pass cars overall to have a shot.
