  1. As of today, the Dreamcast is old enough to buy a beer (at least here in the US). God, we're getting old.

  4. Fuck, I was just thinking that I gave my 8 year-old a 7th generation iPad for his birthday last March. We bought the 128GB model when it was on sale last Christmas for $329 (regularly $429). It was a great deal, but even that was more expensive than a Series S. Hell, the stupid keyboard I bought for my iPad Pro is the same price as a Series S.

  5. Same. Watch Series 6 is an instant order for me.

  6. Dolby Vision support at launch on the Series X and Series S for apps (and next year for gaming): https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2020/09/09/introducing-xbox-series-s/ I'm assuming UHD disc support for DV will be there out of the box too? System spec comparisons from the same link:

  7. Differs from PC and console too. I’m a premium subscriber and I can get Madden 21 and Fallen Order on PC but not on Xbox One. Doesn’t make a lot of sense.

  8. £449 in the UK for the X: Solid prices in my opinion. I've yet to see MS confirm the storage expansion cost, but if it is indeed north of 150 then the X just seems like the better long term investment for the added storage, higher performance, and the option of still being able to buy physical games (though were there a digital X I'd favour that to be honest, but that's my personal preference). I'd still wait to see Digital Foundry put the S through its paces however to see if it has any surprises.

  9. Preorder notification pages are up. Amazon Best Buy Target I signed up at Target and Best Buy. I’m still deciding which one I want to go with. I can do financing with Best Buy, but I can get five percent off at Target.

  12. I've got a banged up Series 2. I want to upgrade to either a 6 (or a well-marked down 5) depending on the new features.

  13. My god. I can’t fucking wait! Please, please be a success. I want a proper Dune Messiah adaptation on the big screen.

  14. So that lego super mario stuff... It's an interesting idea, having the bits to do basically a physical Mario Maker, but the real FU on this whole thing is that you basically NEED an ipad to go with it. They do say "smart device required" on the product page, but I thought that was only for some AR type stuff, but even the building instructions are only available in the app, which is only on ios/android. Ended up going through it on my phone with my son (after a few attempts to get it to work on one of the spare laptops under an emulator), and even on an s10+ the screen is a little small for

  15. They Live was reportedly one of the better encoded ones. It's the only of the Studiocanal Carpenters I have, so I can't speak about, say, The Fog firsthand, but I didn't have any complaints about the presentation at all, and I'm pretty fussy about encoding. I think the complaints about They Live swirled around the opening/closing credits and a brief burst of lousy compression during the raid with all the red flares and smoke.

  18. With a big ass fan like that, I would think so. Generally speaking, the bigger the fan, the more air you can move at lower speeds. The lower the speed, the less noise the fan makes. Honestly, Microsoft’s hardware team has been so good about the acoustics of their consoles this gen, I’m more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their next gen machines.

  19. A spanner in the works is the prospect of another mid-gen refresh. Were that to happen again, one could perhaps quite easily get by the the S for a few years without feeling as if they were missing out on much. I REALLY do need to see Digital Foundry's verdict on the S, and their expectations for what it can deliver in the coming years, before I make a final decision though.

  20. Happy to see the prices and release dates official. $499 for a Series X works for me. I've been saving my money and will be ready to go November 10. Maybe it's time to ask for the day off from work? 🧐

  24. This is easily my most anticipated movie right now. It has been a long time since I was as excited for a particular director’s movies as I am for Denis Villeneuve. The fact the DUNE is his follow up to Blade Runner is a bit mind blowing. Cannot wait.

  25. That 1440p spec is very much an “up to” proposition much like the claim of 120hz. As the generation progresses and games developers work to really flex their muscles technically, there’s no doubt that you’ll quickly see dynamic resolution scaling, reconstruction techniques and outright 1080p in some titles. It’s the nature of the beast, really. Yes, absolutely. A $299 Game Pass box as an add-on console to the PS5 is certainly appealing.
