  1. How to get a good run going in Returnal from Biome 1 1. Take your time and explore. Understand what type of room you are entering before you go in and use your mini-map and standard map to make sense of this. Things to know: Entrances with a blue triangle shape doorway are optional/item paths. These rooms usually include chests and upgrades but come with the risk of tougher enemies but are mostly doable. Entrances in yellow with a star over the door are challenge rooms. They include the toughest of the toughest enemies. High rewards, high risk. Entrances with stan

  2. Look. I suck at the game and I'm looking for shit to complain about to make me feel better.

  3. Just taking a quick, informal poll here. How many of you who are playing this game right now want to punch Romier in his fucking face? 😃

  4. The world is a better place for it existing. There just isn’t an combination of genres like this available on the market. Much less one that executes at this level. I’m ecstatic that it exists and that it has gotten a AAA marketing push and Sony muscle behind it. Housemarque deserves the success cause they make amazing games and this one is no exception. As evidenced by this thread - that doesn’t mean that Returnal is for everyone and that’s /OK/. Not every game needs to appeal to everyone and though it may sound like I’m gatekeeping (I’m not), the game doesn’t need a traditional save

  6. Wow. Thanks for those tips. A few I was already going to use the next time I play, but there is a lot of useful stuff there. Nice to have it all in one place too. What weapons and alt fires have you been liking from Biome 1?

  7. For sure, if you distill it down to the skeleton of the story (and I only know a small portion of it at the moment), there isn't a lot of meat on those bones, but to me a big part of it is the context, the environment the story is embedded in. And by environment I include the amalgam of gameplay styles, and also the actual environments you run through, which are really beautifully designed IMO. I also like way the 'cycle' gameplay is working with the story. Note that the sentence you quoted, those two things "world building, and storytelling" were the end of a list of things I like

  8. Inopportune crashing aside, I really do like this game a lot. As expected I'm not terribly good at it, but I'm improving. I'm loving the combination of silky smooth combat controls, fast arcade-like action, exploration, world building, and storytelling. The intuitive responsiveness of the controls really makes me feel empowered that I can get better on each run. And quick the pace in general keeps me from feeling that it's a slog to replay. Also of course the fact that you won't see the same arrangement of rooms and pickups also helps it remain fresh. This is in contrast to Nex Machina whic

  9. Exactly why Housemarque should add some sort of save mechanism to use in the middle of a run.

  10. Exactly why rest mode isn’t the way to preserve a run.

  11. One of the dumbest fucking things Sony removed from the PS4 to PS5 is game patch notes. Out of all of the UI changes that could irk me, none irk me more than that because it’s so easy to do and it’s already there for PS4 games!

  12. Big dump of 50 games added. Including some nice ones like Alien Isolation. Assassins Creed titles, Far Cry and more. Check out the list here: https://majornelson.com/fpsboost/ Alien Isolation is one I may rebuy as I own it on the PS4. That’s if the resolution isn’t dropped to achieve the 60fps target.

    A thread about Lego

Seeing as how I'm out of room for the big sets I like, I'm wondering now about micro sets. Ideally I was wondering if there's a place that sells (reliable) MOC instructions for really small sets? I did a quick search to find an example of what I'm talking about and maybe I'm thinking micro-scale after reading this Brickset article. Update: did some looking and found this build with free instructions and so far it wasn't just a virus

  15. That is some Japanese style SHMUP bullet hell nonsense in that video. I might put this in the "not playing it to relax" category. I might play it if I'm feeling cute.
