    Apple Discussion Thread

I’m most looking forward to new AirPods. I would like some updated “regular” AirPods with new W chips and better controls. The batteries on my current AirPods are kind of shot and don’t report the % properly anymore. My left one just cuts out without any warning and says it’s almost fully charged as soon as I pop it in the charger. The right one isn’t as bad, but it was actually a replacement one, so it’s not as old.

  2. I guess it’s been long enough since I subbed to Gamepass that I qualified for the $1 first month again. I already played 12 Minutes last night, was installing MSFS (I assume it’s done, but it may not be) and will use it to play Psychonauts 2. Not bad for $1.

  3. After quitting out to the main menu, it looks like changing the difficulty did actually set the final mission to 'Easy'. I just couldn't feel any difference whatsoever. I'm not sure in the new UI how to choose my teammates the way I could before (it seems like it'll only let me invite players online?), but if I could get a healer in the mix, I think I might be alright. Or maybe I'll try to beef up Black Panther first by playing something other than War for Wakanda. Or I might just drop the idea of finishing since I hate it. 😛

  6. Agree on the difficulty spike. FWIW I had an easier time of it the 2nd time I tried that last mission with Iron Man in the group with a ranged build supporting me but, not sure if there is an optimal companion set for it. Once finished though I’ve been having a blast playing as BP and leveling him up 😊 he’s a great new addition.

  7. The difficulty spike at the end of the expansion is…oof. I feel like I spent more time on the final two checkpoints than I did the entire rest of the expansion, combined. (I mean, I know that’s not true, but I sincerely don’t think it’s far off.) And that’s without actually having successfully finished that boss battle! Adjusting the campaign difficulty in the settings doesn’t appear to do anything here, so I guess I have to replay the entire mission on Easy or see if I have better luck restarting this checkpoint tomorrow. It’s especially miserable because the checkpoint is before a loooooooong cutscene, and even though you can eventually skip it, it still takes a while to get to that point on the PS5.

  8. video-1629102877.mp4 Installed a Next Level Racing Motion V3 into the rig over last weekend. One step closer to having a simulator that costs as much as an actual car. All you hear in the video are the tensioner springs flexing, but in hindsight I should have let the system blare instead of game sound staying in the headset. Also picked up some more wheels (simple, buttonless rally wheel and an F1 buttons-out-the-wazoo wheel). Next up, some sort of bass shaker solution like what Sim Racing Studio offer. (https://www.simracingstudio.com/product-page/srs-shakekit-shakeseat-integrated-with-shakebox-lite) Then some reactive lights or wind generators? Who knows... TBC

  10. Rise from your grave!! So I've been getting into racing sims and upgraded my trusty Logitech G29 to a direct drive setup by Fanatec. Brother, let me tell you, it's a whole different immersive experience. Covid sent racing sim interest into the stratosphere, and there are a bunch of products that elevate the experience - you can achieve quite a lot of fidelity nowadays. Here's what I ended up with so far: Fanatec DD2 wheel base Fanatec R300 wheel and a 2021 Limited Edition F1 wheel Fanatec Clubsport Pedals V3 Inverted Fanatec Clubsport Shifter SQ and Handbrake Sim Lab P1-X racing cockpit (Sparco Evo II US seat) Samsung Odyssey G9 49" curved display Alienware M15 w/ RTX 3080 I'm looking into adding a seat mover (like Next Level Racing's Motion Platform V3), but there are options here, like those from DOFReality. Other than that, I might collect a few more wheels, but the setup is pretty done for a while. The way all the road information gets transmitted to the wheel is something else. You get some great force feedback with the Logitech, but it caps at around 2.5 Nm of force. That's not a lot of headroom to convey it all. The DD2, on the other hand, has 25 Nm of force at the ready, coupled with a free-floating, non-geared drive shaft that feels like butter to spin, which is enough to break your wrists (not broken bones, but broken grip - I GUESS it could break your bones too if you crank up the juice and don't pay attention, who knows...) and deliver an immersive experience like no other. After I skill up a bit, I'll try my hand at racing with the crazies in iRacing. Steam's current sale has the year membership at $30, so that's almost a no-brainer. If anyone else wants to hop on an race Project Cars 1, 2, 3, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Assetto Corsa, or rFactor 2, holler. I'll try any game, just pick your poison. EDIT: Gah, didn't see the older thread that's probably a better home for this! If a mod would be so kind as to move this post there I'd love you long time.
