So when I showed the kids thingiverse, and asked if there was anything they wanted to print, I thought my son would want a Master Sword. He's been obsessed with Zelda for a while, and there are some cool models on there that print in a few pieces, so I figured it'd be a large, but fairly straightforward print. Instead, he asked for a Fierce Deity sword. Now there are a couple of models on thingiverse, but none of them are quite right. They either cheat by having the two blades as one piece, or the bottom didn't look right, so we decided to just model our own in SolidWorks. This one is bey

  2. It might just be mac and cheese, but this is the first time I've cooked it completely from scratch including making my own roux, using the "classic" recipe for Baked Mac + Cheese from "How To Cook Everything". Next time, I'd use a better cheese, but it came out nice + tasty.

    A thread about Lego

Next creator expert set is the Space Shuttle Discovery: More details here:https://brickset.com/article/58508 A little different from the usual "shuttle on launch pad with boosters" model that you get, and I like the option to display with the bay doors open and the Canadarm deployed. If I can figure out a spot to put it (likely with the Saturn V and lander models), then I'll probably get this one.

My fixed PSX arrived today. All is well. PS1Digital works a treat and I spent a good three hours sampling games on the X-Station. Quite pleased to finally have it back.

  15. Godzilla vs Kong - Two hours I’ll spend again this weekend. Big, wonderfully silly and it pushes the human nonsense as far into the background as possible cause it knows it’s just there to get you to what you came to see. The last 40 minutes are on par with Pacific Rim in terms of modern Kaiju battle porn. This isn’t high art but it’s probably the most evocative of those old Heisei period films. I expect many to dislike it for that. I was as giddy watching it as I was Pacific Rim. Summed up: It’s a whole lotta stupid shit to get these two to fight and it’s glorious when they do.

  18. I wouldn't use the built-in audio from the laptop (it'll suck). 1. It looks like the Zoom H5 is already a USB interface so you shouldn't need anything additional. But if you want to look for what other products are out there, you are looking basically for USB audio interfaces with built-in mic pre-amps, like this one (pretty popular): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QR6Z1JB 2. Use a USB audio interface - 3.5mm implies you would use the laptop's built-in audio i/f which always are crappy, specially for mic setups (fine for a conference call not for tracking vocals ). 19. @Angry the Clown After playing almost nothing for the past couple of months, this grabbed me like you were saying. I'm not as interested in the story as much as I thought I'd be, but the gameplay and progression are where it's at. I'm part way through the Old Growth mission but moved on to do other things. My side mission list is quite long now! I'm pretty sure I'll try to Platinum this. This game reinforced an idea I've had before: Sony and Microsoft should create API so in-game lore and supplemental material can be read/consumed outside of the game, with the mostly l

  20. I finally started playing the game this morning with a view to make it one of my backlog titles to scratch off of the list in April. I've reached the maintenance level and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's hard not to appreciate just what ray tracing can add to a game on a subconscious level as your brain recognises light behaving so accurately. It's hugely impressive.

  21. Yeah, it was remarkably OK? Definitely a better movie than the original, and it was nice that they actually managed to give each character a story (or at least something to do). It still felt like they didn't "earn it" with setups ahead of time, which is why there's 2.5 movies' worth of story in one block. Not quite enough there for a full flash or cyborg movie I suppose. I think you probably could have trimmed 20 mins pretty easily without losing story, but there was a LOT of ground they managed to cover in 4 hours. So I'm glad it exists, and I'm glad Zack Snyder got to put so

So there is a store near me that used to be an independent video rental store. It still does some rentals but is now primarily a used DVD/Bluray and game store. I never went in there though as I thought it would either be overpriced or mostly stuff I didn’t care about. What a fool I am. I went in there yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised. They had everything from 2600 and Intellivision to PS5 and Series X. Prices seemed more than reasonable (not that I’m an expert on what things are worth), and they had racks of used games for PS2/Xbox/GC up to current. I picked up

  23. The Sony compact primes are announced. I like these a lot. They have a de-clickable aperture ring, a function button (love this), are weather sealed, have a linear manual focus ring, and the lens hood is compact in design as well. The only real downside to any of the recent Sony lenses is focus breathing. It's a compromise they're obviously willing to make because it's pretty much across the board lately with these primes as well as the recent 50/1.2 and the 35/1.4. I'm not really sure I care though as I use the camera less for video, much less for focus pulls, and I'm not sure I

Next project-I got our daughter to play Catan, so naturally I needed to make a game organizer. All the designs on the thingiverse were for the newer edition though, and since I wasn't sure the box was the same size, I designed my own: I found something similar on thingiverse for the player boxes, and liked the basic design, but I created my own version with rounded corners on the inside of the bases, and an indentation in the front to make getting the lid out easier. Big enough to fix extra pieces for expansions too: Hex and tile storage. The extra

  26. New update for the X/S added the ability to set FPS Boost and Auto-HDR per game. Just click on the options button on the game and select “Manage Game” and you’ll see compatibility options there. Very cool! I didn’t like having to go to the settings menu to disable Auto-HDR on some titles.

  28. Also this: Parris has stated in his videos that Microsoft would honor the existing exclusive contracts and continue support online games/existing games on other platforms but that all new games would be Xbox exclusive so I guess that pretty much confirms that. There's a reason I bought a Series X and this is one of them.

  35. Good news on the lens front from Sony. They have a series of small f2.5 G series primes coming very soon in 24mm, 50mm and 40mm. https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/leaked-images-of-sony-fe-24mm-f2-8-g/ They look very similar to the DG DN mirrorless lenses Sigma have been doing recently for E and L mount.

  36. I was a little let down by the ending of Wandavision, I still enjoyed it and thought it was a solid episode on it's own, I just didn't find it fully satisfying considering the build up from episode 3 on. I liked the first episode of Falcon and The Winter Soldier, especially what they are doing with Bucky, some really nice Falcon action scenes at the start too, looking forward to next Friday.

  39. So, apparently the Snyder Cut is pretty good? As someone who couldn’t care less about these movies, I have to admit that I was kind of hoping it would be an even bigger mess than the original cut and then get to watch people try and justify why it is better than the original. Good on him for getting to make a version of his movie that people seem to be enjoying though.

    Valheim

So we fought Yugluth the 5th boss and he was pretty tough. We both died multiple times and had to leave the fight and regroup. We did not have fire resistance potions made and had just decided to “try” him. In Valheim, that is a bad idea. Once we had health potions, large health foods and our new fire resistance potions we worked on Yugluth as a team on opposite sides so, as he attacked one of us the other moved in close to get in as many melee attacks as they could, then switch to the other player as he aggro’d. We still needed all our food and both had to use health potions during the fight

    Cutting the Cable Cord

My wife and I officially cut the cord this weekend and cancelled our DirecTV service. It cost us $155/month and we never used it. And when I say we never used it, I mean that in the most literal way possible. I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time we turned it in and actually watched it on a regular basis. We used to watch it a lot more. My kids would watch a lot of shows everyday on Nick Jr., and my wife and I would watch a few shows together and on our own. That’s all changed now in the last couple years. The boys now watch most stuff on their iPads via YouTube Kids, and the sho
