So on Thursday, voice chat will be coming to Fortnite on the Switch VIA THE HEADPHONE JACK. Why is Nintendo making players jump through hoops to do voice chat on Splatoon via a smartphone app???

I'm a huge fan of the core series of Pokémon games so I'm very excited by the core gameplay (and outfits for Pokemon!) they showed but I hope the Pokémon Go integration is just a secondary/optional thing. Who am I kidding? I'll be getting it no matter what.

After having #flickergate issues every day on my SP4 for about a month straight, I switched back to my old SP3 for a couple of weeks (never experienced any #flickergate issues on the SP3). A couple of weeks ago (after I first posted about my #flickergate issues), I needed to switch back to my SP4 to do something for work and I haven't had any issues since. I don't know if Microsoft released a patch recently that fixed the issue for me but if they did, it didn't work for everybody (based on the #flickergate forums). I'm glad the issue seems to be resolved but I'll definitely keep my eye on it.

I bought the Best Buy brand Insignia Dock for the Switch last night so I can easily connect my Switch to my other TV without moving the dock. It's $40 ($50 less than the Nintendo one) and it comes with an AC adapter and HDMI cable. The dock is well-built and a lot smaller than the Nintendo one. Width-wise, it's about as wide as the LCD screen (not the width of the Switch itself) and the LCD screen is mostly visible on the front of the dock (on the back of the Switch, the back piece of the dock goes up maybe about half way up the Switch. There's also a USB port on the base of the dock. Because the dock is not as wide as the Switch, it does make lining up the USB-C connector a little harder than on the Nintendo dock. Even though the front is more open than on the Nintendo dock, I still don't think you'll be able to dock the Switch with any kind of case/skin on it.

    Here's a link to it: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-dock-kit-with-hdmi-and-usb-for-nintendo-switch-black/6065700.p?skuId=6065700

So far, it's been working great. I played Doom on it for about 1.5 hours last night and didn't have any problems. If you're looking for a cheaper dock, I'd recommend it. The Nintendo dock is wildly over-priced.

Thanks for the info, Magness. Hopefully, they add the counter directional attacks and button remapping option. Without crossplay, I wonder if the more limited Switch userbase (compared to iOS/Android) would make a MOBA less feasible (e.g. having to wait a long time for matches, seeing the same players, etc.).

    Couple of questions:
    1) Were all the controls exclusively mapped to hardware buttons/sticks (no touchscreen use at all)?
    2) How did directional special attacks work where you are running in one direction and firing in another direction? On the iOS version, you can do this by pressing on the special attack you want to use and then sliding your finger in the direction you want to attack in.

I'm definitely interested in the Switch version of this game. I wonder if there will be iOS/Android/Switch cross-play?

    Thanks.

I got a 64GB iPad Pro 10.5" for $499.99 over the weekend. It is blazing fast! I finally bit the bullet after my iPad 3 (with 30-pin connector!) has been overheating (causing slowdown issues) and probably only lasting about 5 hours between charges.

This is what Capcom should've released instead of a $40 Ultra SF II: The Final Challengers for the Switch. Really highlights what a cash grab that was.

I've played about 10 hours of Skyrim so far, about 50/50 split between handheld and TV mode. The text is much easier to read in TV mode but the game doesn't look as good as in handheld mode (it looks like a 360 game in TV mode to me). It was kind of distracting at first, but after I got into the game, I quickly forgot about it. I'm glad the developers prioritized a smooth framerate over a higher resolution. The game wouldn't be as immersive if it looked better but was stuttery. It's amazing being able to play Skyrim wherever I want. Gonna be putting a lot of hours into this one!

I have a 128GB micro SD card in my Switch with the following digital games/apps:
    Rocket League
    Hulu
    Super Mario Odyssey
    Doom
    Rayman Legends
    Arms
    Mario Kart 8
    Minecraft
    NBA Playgrounds
    Fast RMX
    Splatoon 2
    Snipperclips
    Ultra Street Fighter 2

And I still have 54.6GB free. The only physical game I've bought so far was Breath of the Wild and it has never left my Switch.

Doom is 21.3GB and NBA Playgrounds is 9.6GB. The rest range from 6.8GB to 905MB (excluding Hulu which is 37.5MB). Other than Skyrim, I probably won't get anything else this year.

EDIT: FYI, the digital download of Breath of the Wild is 13.6GB.

Don't give up hope! I won my Switch in an online contest by thrifter.com.

Amazon had the set of gray joy-cons for $66 a few weeks ago so I picked those up to play some multiplayer games.

I have 1 physical game (BOTW), 8 digital games and 6 digital demos. The convenience of not having to switch/keep track of/carry game carts is the best (even if you're just moving from one room to another in your house to play the Switch). Plus some games, like NBA 2K18, will require a microSD card even when you purchase the physical game cart.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Doom/Wolfenstein II announcements. The Swtich definitely needs more mature AAA FPS games.

It would've been nice if Nintendo had made it so that if a player drops out of a Splatoon 2 multiplayer match, his/her character becomes a bot so that their team isn't totally crippled.

I was playing some local multiplayer Mario Kart last night and I got disconnected but the CPU took over my character to finish the race so although I lost that race, I was still able to win the overall cup.

Having a lot of fun with Splatoon 2 (I didn't have a Wii U so it's my first experience playing a Splatoon game). Played the first few levels of single player and about 10 multiplayer Turf War matches. The game looks and plays great although I had to switch out of the motion controls for aiming (thankfully, it is available as an option to suit each gamer's individual tastes).

The Switch Online app is very... strange. I'm not sure why online chat isn't done directly on the Switch unless it cannot accommodate it without affecting the system's performance (which it probably should have been designed to accommodate from the start).

I know I must be playing a lot of Switch because when I picked up a DS4 controller, the thumbsticks and buttons felt MASSIVE. Also, the position of the buttons for standard menu navigation for select/back are reversed with the PS4/XBone compared to the Switch which caused all kinds of confusion!

I have the Fitbit Charge HR and my wife has the Apple Watch. The battery life on the Apple Watch is pretty dreadful. It needs to be recharged every night. My Fitbit Charge HR had to be recharged about twice a week but once I turned off HR monitoring (which I didn't use) and reduced the number of alarms I was using, I only have to charge it once a week. For me, constant battery charging on a watch (particularly one I use as a vibrating alarm to wake me up) is a deal-breaker. For others, it may not be a big deal.

I think the biggest thing between the Fitbit Charge HR and the Apple Watch is how tied into using the Fitbit app you are. If you have a lot of friends on your Fitbit app and you like the social aspect of it, you may not want to switch to an Apple Watch as it isn't directly compatible with the Fitbit app (there are apps that supposedly transfer the Apple Watch fitness data to the Fitbit app but I have no idea how well they work).
