Mark E
It's the witching season, so in honor of said time I thought it'd be a neat idea to toss up a quick list of actually scary or strongly horror-themed games available for the Big 3 and the PC in case anybody was looking for a spooky game to give some flavor to the season. Note the actual scary part. Things like Luigi's Mansion or the "merciful mother of god noooo" Kabuki Warriors do not qualify. Feel free to add your own or dispute my findings. Playstation 2 Fatal Frame Resident Evil Resident Evil 2 Resident Evil: Nemesis Resident Evil: Code Veronica X Silent Hill Silent Hill 2 Silent Hill 3 X-Box Silent Hill 2 Fatal Frame GameCube Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem Resident Evil 0 Resident Evil: Remake Resident Evil 2 Resident Evil: Nemesis Resident Evil: Code Veronica X PC Clive Barker's Undying Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within Gabriel Knight: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned The Lurking Horror System Shock System Shock 2 They Hunger Classic Systems Sure they violate the actually scary rule, but given the season you could get away with a little Altered Beast or some Zombies Ate My Neighbours . Romier S
Grabbed by the Ghoulies is perfect for Halloween fun, especially if you have a son or daughter that wants to get in on the action. Very lighthearted and entertaining. Also I'm dismayed to not see the seminal Halloween game on that list....MediEvil for the original PS1! Always have to throw that one in during the season of the witch!
Mark E
Oh there are plenty of light-hearted and fun all-ages games I could have tossed on, but I was going for the more bone-chilling ones that offer jump scares at the very least . Hence no "Nightmare on Elm Street" for the NES .
JFo
As long as we're on the subject of light-hearted Halloween games, I'd like to add Luigi's Mansion to the list. That's a fun little Ghostbusters meets Mario game.
Zathras
Actually the new Haunted Mansion does have some genuine creepy/spookyness to it so I'd say its listworthy.
Romier S
but I was going for the more bone-chilling ones that offer jump scares at the very least In that case I'll add Clock Tower 3 to that list. Excellent little game that no one bought.
Mark E
Excellent little game that no one bought. It'll fit well with some of the titles on that list then :green:.
iainl
How about the original Alone In The Dark? Partly because it taught Resident Evil everything it knows about being scary, and only partly because it also taught it everything it knows about control schemes... (sorry, I really must learn to leave that one alone)
James T
Alone in the Dark was the first game I've passed on the PC. I loved that game. I got frustrated with the painting that was shooting arrows. It took me days to figure that out. I've always wanted to play Fatal Frame, but it's still $50 in Canada and no video store has it for rent. I actually bought it off someone on the net, but the post office lost it, so technically, if I do end up buying it, it's gonna cost me $30+
