exile
Looks like Pioneer is going to stop making panels all together. http://www.cnbc.com/id/23454069/for/cnbc They will now use the glass for their Plasma TV's made from other company panels like Panasonic. kelley
Sad, but they probably saw the margins disappearing and decided to bail out while they could. Hopefully they sold their tech to Panasonic.
Angry the Clown
It’s definitely a shame to hear they will no longer produce their own panels, but I can’t say that I am surprised given the losses they have taken on their plasmas over the years. Panasonic’s prices, as well as those of LCDs, have really made it difficult for Pioneer to compete and unfortunately I am not sure promoting the KURO line to the high end of the market worked as well as they hoped. I couldn’t be happier with my KURO set. Despite some minor quirks I’m enjoying the most CRT like image I’ve seen in a flat panel. I was thinking to myself only this past weekend that its image quality has matured quite magnificently with age even when watching SD TV via the internal digital tuner.
