fretster
I currently have a Samsung 32" LCD 720p/1080i and my father wants to get and LCD; he's agreed to buy mine for $600. I'm looking to get something bigger (thinking around 40") and 1080p. I love my Samsung, and would like to stick with them. My concern is with price, and tv models; I'm not an aficionado on such things and could use all the help I can get. My budget is around $1200; although I could throw some more in if necessary. I've seen 40" for a bit more than that by Samsung, but I can't believe that there aren't any out there that aren't closer to my ideal price point. I'm open to other good brands, I don't know who makes good panels and who doesn't. Just going off experience with the Sammy lovin' Thanks! Solitice
Check out the Panasonic TH-42PZ77U, they street around 1400 bucks and put out a decent picture. You're going to be a little hard pressed to find a name brand TV thats 1080p in that price range. The best bang for buck in my opinion is still the Kuro sets from Pioneer, nothing else touches them right now and with sets less than 50", unless you're sitting a screen length away all the time I would worry more about black levels than 1080p vs 720p. Anthony G
Fretster, I went with this and love it.
fretster
That Sharp one looks pretty amazing.
James T
Sharp is a very good brand and great picture. If you're buying a Sharp, stay away from models that are a year to a year and a half old (model #LC***62U). They have banding issues that range from barely noticeable to ugly
fretster
Are there any Sharp models out that you'd recommend with a decent looking cabinet? I'm not a huge fan of the silver bulge on the bottom of the one that Anthony showed.

fretster
Sweet. That'll go nicely with my NOT GETTING ANY.
Jordan_E
We pulled the trigger on a Panasonic 50" plasma for the bedroom. Delivery tomorrow afternoon.
exile
Jordan, I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I saw a 50" 1080P Panasonic Viera for $1600 yesterday NIB. It looked WAY better than any of the LCD's on the showroom.
Jordan_E
Yep. Wife paid off the Magnolia bill and decided it was time we upgraded. Needless to day, I did not argue.
Parrish
I picked up a Vizio 42 inch 1080P LCD set from Costco for $999 last month, and I've been very pleased with it. Very nice bang for your buck.
Jordan_E
BTW, while the wife was setting up delivery time, I sat down and watched a nice 60" TV with a EXPERIENCE BLU RAY sign... it was playing Transformers. I almost laughed outloud.
Jordan_E
The TV is delivered and set up, Blu Ray in place, and am getting ready to watch one of my I-know-every-second-of-this-movie titles, Halloween. Already watched a little HD cable and it looked spectacular.
