Why can't people leave well enough alone?

The first movie rocked!

The series, while it had it's flaws, was EXTREMELY entertaining.

The other movies were garbage.

BUT, it's made it's legacy.

Hollywood has indeed lost ALL originality, save a few glimmers of inspiration here and there.

Ugh... just f'in UGH....

I don't think sequels or remakes do anything to what comes before. I have quite comfortably ignored remakes and sequels that I've had no interest in. Look at Batman. It started out great with Michael Keaton, went ridiculously down hill, and then get reinvented all over again. I see no problem with them trying.

Journey to the Center of the Earth. Yeah, I'm stretching, but it is a remake. Get Smart. Sure, a TV show, but kind of a remake. Mamma Mia. Based on a Broadway show, but still not original. Hellboy II. A sequel. Wanted. Graphic novel. Like I wrote. Name Recognition R Us, formerly known as Hollywood.

I'm convinced that asking this question is a sign you are getting old. :)

Change is good.

Besides, Highlander sucked. I mean, it was cool when I was 8 but I tried watching it a year or two ago and couldn't believe how cheesy and, well...bad it was.

Oh good grief who cares if they want to remake things every five minutes. The originals are still there to be enjoyed you know. I used to care about this but anymore I just don't care. If a remake looks interesting I'll give it a shot, but if I not I just avoid it.

And seriously, many of us may have fond memories of Highlander, but its a horrible movie. Its a B B-movie for crying out loud. Outside of a killer Queen (:)) soundtrack it really doesn't have much going for it. Cheesy special effects (even for the time), bad acting (even from the slumming Sean "I'll Act In Anything" Connery), a silly concept and typical MTV editing that these days everyone seems to hate. Just not good.

I liked the first Highlander movie. I even thought the 2nd and 3rd ones were viewable (ok, at least the director's cut of the 2nd one...the one in the future...stock cut was awful)

I always thought the series was extremely repetitive. Never really liked it much. The actor guy was ok though.

Given the entire premise of "there can be only one", I think in this instance a remake makes a hell of a lot more sense than a sequel ever did. And, like Batman Begins, I wouldn't want to admit those sequels exist either if I had to write it.

Yeah, and where I still have my fondness for what was, it's a tired franchise.

There has been some successful remakes, and I AM open to them if they are done well, but I guess more than anything, is that I grow weary of all the other remakes that have come out in the last few years that have NOT been done well.

And there has just been a slew of them in a row.

One here, one there, ok.... but it just seems that there has been a bandwagoning of sorts with all these remakes.

That's all really, I guess.

This is just hollywood trying to cash in on past movies by totally revamping and updating the special effects. I have a mixed feeling on these so called remakes because they usually end up making a movie that just isn't the same or promotes the same message like it use too. Prime example is Halloween remake. I've also heard that Hollywood is going to remake "Escape from New York", "JAWS" and "The Monster Squad" (all rumours right now).

The only way for them to stop is when the remakes start failing baddly....bad thing is sometimes the remakes do well enough to keep Hollywood interested and they really have no more stories to do. Nothing is original anymore.

As for Highlander....:There can be only one!"

I only hate remakes in the fact that I as someone trying to sell something original seeing remake after remake reminds me that unless I have access to a known title already it's about as easy to sell as it is to find a game worth buying a game for my PS3! ZING!

That would depend on how narrow minded you are. There are a bunch of titles now to buy on the PS3 that are worth owning and more to come. It's like someone telling me that all new music sucks. If all new musics sucks, then you aren't looking in the right places.

Sometimes the remakes do well because they're actually pretty good movies. :)
