Overall

"August industry sales remain strong and realized a 9% gain over last August, although the month posted the first single-digit percentage growth in 27 months"

"Despite smaller growth this month, the industry is up 32% year-to-date and remains on target to achieve annual revenues in the range of $22 to $24 billion"

"Across hardware, software and accessories, products for the Wii platform contributed 28% of total industry dollar sales for the month of August"

Hardware

"The PSP and PS3 systems achieved the greatest percentage gain of all now-gen systems. The sales acceleration of these systems, combined with the recent Xbox 360 price cuts should fuel future growth of this category"

Software[/u][/b]

"Madden NFL '09 was the top-selling game of the month, and launched with 2.3 million units out of retail doors in it's first month, besting last year's '08 title by 2%. Year after year, the industry can count on the Madden release to bring folks into stores during the relatively lazy days of late summer"

"Year-to-date, Grand Theft Auto IV remains the top-selling game at 4.8 million units sold in the U.S. through August"

"Wii Play continues its remarkable track record, achieving a 44% attach rate to new Wii hardware sales for the month. It has remained a top-10 game each month since it's February 2007 introduction"

Accessories

"Xobx Live point cards and gold membership cards represented three of the top-10 accessory items for the month which sheds a little light onto the popularity of this service to Xbox 360 fans"

It actually sold more than I expected it to to be honest but that's not exactly a strong opening month for a game that hopes to end up a trilogy. It will absolutely disappear next month and if they plan to create a trilogy- Microsoft won't be publishing it.

I saw the scores in EGM, C-, C, D+ IIRC. I was surprised since I thought this was one everyone was anticipating.

Cool to see SC4 on the list, not a lot of fighting games crack the top 10 these days.

Just picked up a Wii for our friend at Costco. Still can't find them anywhere in Denver, she was thrilled we had found a unit. Should I start stcking up now to sell on eBay this xmas? The ride for Nintendo just never ends...

Why not just let people buy them at retail prices? Unless you really need the extra money, why bother?

Sorry, this whole practice just bugs me.

Why ask why? Why spark a stale debate? Maybe he does need the extra money but that's none of our business. I look at it this way, it's providing a service for those who don't have the time or want to waste the time to find stuff they want. I was very happy to provide my launch PS3 to the higgest bidder. $2k later, my family had a nice x-mas.

Why try to bait me into a discussion of the ethics of capitalism on a gaming forum?

Besides, you already know why. To make money of course.

Because you asked our opinion. If you don't want answers, don't ask.

That might help you out Josh ;)

Thanks for the definition. As you know, I often miss, and am completely befuddled by: irony, sarcasm, and, in this case, poorly-constructed rhetoricals. I will do my best to work on my reading comprehension, and, perhaps, some day, learn to write.

In short, if you don't want people commenting on things you say, don't say them. Mom should have taught you that. Kthxbye.

This thread reads like the comments on Digg.

Which isn't a good thing in my opinion. I was hoping the initial commentary on Wii after market sales would resolve itself (apparently not) and then we move onto douche bag definitions. I'm all for fun but I don't think there's much else to say..
