Covak
If you have an X-Fi card and the latest beta drivers (released a week ago) you can pay US$4.72 for a Dolby Digital Live Pack to enable real-time Dolby Digital encoding for 5.1 output, like an Xbox. The price is certainly right for me (it'll be convenient once in a blue moon).
kelley
About time they catch up to the nForce 2's built in audio unit. How is the stability of Creative's drivers these days.
Covak
I've never had the slightest problem with my X-Fi. Love it

No kidding. Creative sure likes charging money for drivers lately...kinda weird.
Covak
Creative sure likes charging money for drivers lately...kinda weird. Charging for drivers? Have they done that with other things? The money for this is solely for the Dolby Digital Live ability.
GreenMonkey
http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=589 $9.99 for EAX support for Audigy cards (Vista issue only). They were only getting stereo / no EAX under Vista before Creative brought out this update. I'm not one of those angry folks...I can see how you might need to recoup the costs of writing drivers/software/etc. It just seems like a weird trend. Covak
Huh, I'm not sure how I would have felt about that if I'd been affected. Apparently the "Dolby Digital Live" pack also includes DTS encoding for Vista only. Groovy, I guess.
