Tonner Cyn
I didn't see a thread going for basketball so I decided to start one. I actually have a fantasy related question, as I really haven't paid a great deal of attention to the NBA in years. Who would be the better player to have on a team - John Salmons or Ray Allen? Starhawk
Ray Allen by far. i think I had John Salmons on my team last year and I brought him on as a Free Agent. He's a free agent in my league right now as well.
Cyberwoo
Ray Allen by far. i think I had John Salmons on my team last year and I brought him on as a Free Agent. He's a free agent in my league right now as well. I dont think its as clear cut a decision as you think. Ray Allen is clearly on the downside of his career due to injuries and the fact he is 3rd option on a team with Pierce and Garnett. Salmons on the other hand is going to put up nice #'s in sac town with the absense of Artest. I drafted Salmons in round 9 of 13 in my 10 team keeper league because I know what he is capable of when given the playing time. He had 24pts, 5rbs and 8asts last night. I'll take that. Not to make your decision any tougher there Tonner.

I've now got him flagged in my league and may pick him up I'd still choose Allen right now if I were picking between the two.
PoisonJam
Any time you have a chance to draft Jesus, I think you have to make that move.
Tonner Cyn
Gah! I understand about Ray Allen perhaps being on the downside of his career, and Salmons' performance in that first game is intriguing. What is I swap one of my bench/utility guys like Kenyon Martin? Paul
Well you all know my thoughts on basketball.. But like the other sports threads, what's everyones early predictions?? The Knicks will win 36 games and at least be interesting to watch for the first time in years. Marbury will be traded. The Spurs start their downward cycle. The Suns will be a big disappointment. Hawks/Sixers continue to improve. Other than that it comes down to Lakers/Hornets in the West and Celtics/Cavs in the the East.
JoeyN
Marbury will be traded Half the knicks will be traded by the end of the year. The next few years are going to be cleaning house
Paul
Jerome James will not be traded.

King of All Cosmos
The Suns won't go anywhere with the lumbering Shaq still on their roster. What a bad trade that was.
Tonner Cyn
Andrew Bynum signs an extension worth about $14M a year. While the guy could turn out to be the last piece the Lakers need, I'm not sure he's worth that money just yet.
PHiL
HUGE NBA TRADE...IVERSON ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Cyberwoo
Wow the Pistons give up "Mr. Bigshot"? That is surprising. McDyess is a big loss to the Pistons as well as he had been playing very solid since being traded to the Pistons. Very interesting trade. I'm not a fan of Iverson and I have to question how adding him to your team while losing 2 of your most consistant and clutch players is going to help your team. King of All Cosmos
This trade makes no sense for Detroit. Billups is an amazing point guard, so consistent. McDyess is rock solid, too. Together they give more than what Iverson can offer, and I really like Iverson. He might be a good piece of a larger puzzle, but he doesn't replace Billups and McDyess. exile
You'll see a lot of teams make moves to free up money for the 09 or 10 season. Lebron will have his opt out that year and teams will be throwing money his way. I don't think Cleveland will keep him.
King of All Cosmos
I understand the desire to free up cash to go after big free agents, but I'd still rather have Billups and McDyess instead of James. James needs to be on a team with a point guard as good as Billups, he can't run the show by himself.
Cyberwoo
I'm not a "LeBrick" fan either. I dont think he will ever win a championship because he seems too focused on being the global icon "King James" instead of being focused on developing his all around game. If he ever improves on his long range game (ie: shoot a higher % on 3's and shoot less of them), becomes a better FT shooter and becomes a better clutch shot then I can see him taking a team over the top but I just don't see that happening. I hope he proves me wrong. I hope this Iverson deal is what finally shuts the window on this current Pistons squads chances of being a champion. Its like once they won 1 they've had this ho-hum attitude like they can turn it on at any moment. Overconfidence is what did them in. Go Blazers. Its nice to finally have a local team worth cheering for again. Gone are the "jailblazers", reefer smokers, and ghetto ballers. Its going to be fun watching this current young group mature and get better every season...hopefully for a long time.

Cyberwoo
The atmosphere at the home games last season was crazy. You can just feel the excitement. Its freakin loud. There is a genuine feeling of "These kids are talented, likable & decent human beings we can root for...finally!" among the fans. Looking forward to seeing a couple games this year. This rise of the Blazers couldn't come at a better time for me as my Spurs (the team I've been rooting for going back to the D-Rob days) look pretty sad at the moment. Duncan and Parker continue to produce but they desperately need Ginobli back asap to be that 3rd consistant scorer/playmaker. Its pretty obvious how big of a loss he is to that team. They need another big too. I want them to win another championship while Duncan is still a stud but its not looking good. Hey it is an odd # year this year so they are due. Starhawk
I know. He was out the entire last season with an injury, and his rookie year before that sucked, so it's definitely easy to forget him.
Cyberwoo
I was being sarcastic. I said all along that picking Morrison was a horrible pick and that he would never amount to anything in the NBA. So far thats been the case. I still can't believe he was taken #3 overall. I see he has finally cut his hair though. Thats a start.
