Sony GigaPocket

I think I've found what I want for Christmas over at The Register.

"Sony has launched a portable personal digital video player under its Vaio brand in Japan . The GigaPocket PCVA-HVP20 features a 20GB hard drive, enough to hold up to 31 hours of programming - if you're pretty frugal with image quality, natch."

Pretty slick.

Erik,

What will you be doing with it, exactly?

I personally can't find a use for one (I can just throw all the video files on my laptop), but I'm wondering how you intend to use its portability. Will you be capturing TV shows and watching them at a later time, say, during your commute (assuming you aren't driving, of course :D )?

I'm assuming that it's an MP3 player as well. I don't see any mention of that in the article, and if it didn't have that I think it would be a bad move on their part.

I've got plenty of anime and TV shows I'd like to throw in there for commutes and times I'm out shopping with my wife (no, please take your time in Marshall Field's, I'll be waiting here... ;) ). I'm also at the airport a lot. But these are all things I use my GBA for.

I don't think I'd really get one, though. Maybe first as an MP3 player, with the second use as a video player for the reasons listed above. There's no real HUGE reason for me to really get one, I suppose.

But isn't it cool looking? 8)

People have been speculating about a video iPod for quite a while...but I haven't really seen anyone come up with a good reason for it to exist.

I mean, I have a basic geeky attraction to it, but I seriously doubt I'd find much utility in it.

I can play movies on my Palm OS device, but side from the wow factor I've never found a need to.
