iainl
For those following at home, I've finally submitted my order for broadband, so I can get XBox Live running. The only game I've currently got that can run on it, though, is Midtown Madness 3. While I'm sure it'll be wonderful and everything, what else do people recommend getting into? I've got a PC, so trying to get back into Counterstrike is definitely a possibility (if its not still full of cheats), and Quake 2 Deathmatch is probably still fun as well. Wolfenstein for XBox Live looks quite fun, but I do have to wonder if its really that much of a sensible purchase when I've got a stack of FPS games on the PC. Halo though Gamespy might be good too, but I wonder how practical that will be when the Box is in a different room to the PC. Anything else I should be getting? Anything free? Mark E
Last time I checked, CS was still full of cheats. Buuut, I am not adverse to getting back into it if we want to get a bunch of us together and play it. I know none of you guys would cheat . iainl
I must admit, I'm mainly looking to play against you guys, rather than the populace at large, for that very reason. I'm guessing its going to be a weekends only thing, though - by the time its evening over there, I'll have been tucked up in bed for hours... Obviously it's time for you to convert to Vampirism.
iainl
Obviously it's time for you to convert to Vampirism. Great idea, but the sunscreen bills to get into work every day would be a killer...
Mark E
That's very true, though I am all good on the weekends for afternoon gaming, long as I am not required by the gf for something (whip crack here).
kelley
When I was hardcore into WWIIOnline, we had several people from Europe who were in our Squad, they would sleep as soon as they got home and then get up and play WWIIOnline during American Prime Time and then maybe take a nap before going to work. Its not the best thing to do, but it does show your dedication to the game.
Camp
Europeans adjusting their schedule to pacify the Americans. That's the way it should be  I read about a massively multiplayer turn-based/real-time hybrid game being developed (I think the team making it is based in St. Louis). If memory serves it's going to be a tactical global domination type game (Risk, Axis & Allies). While this type of game doesn't appeal to everyone the structure of the game seemed to allow for easy gameplay schedules for people all over the globe. Mark E
Yeah, sometimes the games that fail boggle my mind. I thought that real-time space combat/strat sim that MS was pushing (Alliance? Allegiance?) would have gone over like gangbusters, instead it kind slid in DOA. That's totally unrelated, but Camp made me think of it . kelley
Alliance, was just ahead of its time.
Robot Monkey
ASDL on the way; recommendations? AD/HD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder) is a condition affecting children and adults that is characterized by problems with attention, impulsvity, and overactivity. Although there is no cure for AD/HD, many treatments can effectively assist in managing its symptoms. Chief among these treatments is the education of adults with AD/HD and their family members about the disorder?s nature and management. Evidence shows that some tricyclic antidepressants may also be effective in managing symptoms of AD/HD as well as co-existing symptoms of mood disorder and anxiety. Just as there is no single test to diagnose AD/HD, no single treatment approach is appropriate for everyone. Hope this helps! -j
iainl
Well, yesterday I called Clara to find out how long I should expect to wait to hear from BT about when or even if I can have ADSL. Answer - 5-10 working days; i.e. a week or two. Bum. This morning, they've just emailed to say its getting activated on Friday. Woohoo! So, I've just ordered my router. Angry the Clown
Mmm, most ISPs seem to have a '10 day safe zone' of sorts when in fact they'll have you going within about three of four days. It was the same when my dad used freeserve to get DSL running at his place in London. Hopefully with me and Demon it will be little different. I will be sorting it all out this week. I'm having trouble fidning out just how on earth one is able to cancel their subscription with Virgin.net. They've been a superb dial up ISP, but Demon seem to come out highest with DSL speed and support. Due to being able to move the actual shooting period of my film to August now, I MAY be able to get Live hooked up sooner just for a bit of fun here and there. If not, I may well re-install Allied Assault or something. Dan
iainl
Demon look good too, but a quick dig on www.adslguide.org.uk shows that for the last four months Virgin.net have beaten Demon for both speed, customer service and reliability, for what its worth. Clara appears to be faring less well, but I really didn't want to move. Nildram look to be about the best of the lot though, if you are moving. iainl
Phew! Adsl all working now. I had an absolute nightmare of a time getting my router to log in to the ISP last night and this morning. Then, By The Power Of Greyskull, it suddenly started logging in ok. Go figure. I'm off to buy a Live headset and have fun getting that to go out past the router tomorrow, but in the meantime, its time to get some PC games online... Wow. I've just tried to ping the http://www.lcvg.com server to see what transatlantic traffic is like - 150ms; otherwise known as less than I used to get to my ISP's game server, let alone anything else! ADSL is officially da man.
