DC Cinematic Universe Discussion

Is it just me or is Batman also involved in some mayhem toward the end that pissed Bruce off so much at the beginning to the trailer?  Not as epic as toppling Wayne buildings, but still messing shit up.  Anyway, I like Affleck's pissed off glower more than Superman's blandness.

I think that may be the point. Destruction like that happens in the comics all the time. Gotham has been fucked up plenty over the years.

That's kind of why I don't buy into Snyder's argument that it was the plan all along to have that mass destruction in the last one, then address it in the next movie. Superman did still save the planet at the end of Man of Steel, but Bruce/Batman doesn't seem to have any perspective on that here so it's a slightly muddled motivation for Bruce to want to destroy him (he's literally heard saying that is what he has to do). It's difficult to write your way out of what was little more than destruction-porn in the last movie.

Side note, would Bruce really keep the harrowing memory of old Robin's costume on display like it was an exhibit in Planet Hollywood?

I've figured out what it is that bugs me about it. It's less the fact it is on display at all, but the fact it has ben carefully posed, gripping hold of the weapon.

Got some shots of the Costumes on display at NYCC. The glare in that part of the javitz makes it hard for pictures.

It's an interesting contrast to the Civil War trailer which, to me, had the promise of a certain level of sophistication in dealing with a story of pitting hero against hero that this trailer severely lacks.

They, umm, know how goofy they are, right? Because Eisenberg definitely does, and I'm not entirely sure he's let Cavill in on the joke.

Although that's probably the joke. As someone who was severely put off the po-faced tone of the last one, that's a lot more appealing.

And yes, it's giving away the whole third act. Did anyone not expect that to be the third act, though?

Didn't expect them to show the villain who looks more like an Orc from lord of the rings then his comic counterpart :)

Still think affleck will be a great older batman.

Yes, he was the one takeaway from this that I liked (Eisenberg too, actually). I'll be interested to see Affleck's standalone Batman film I think. This, as I have always felt, will depend on reviews getting to to the cinema or whether I leave it to an iTunes rental.

Me, I suppose. I just wasn't sure how much busier this film could get. It's reaching alarming Spider-Man 3 like levels.

Welcome to the new normal. The number of characters here is still well under the current going Marvel rate, and I'm not sure what setup you need to give them beyond saying their names, really.

There's still the question of whether the Marvel formula can work in reverse though. It's easier to accept the Marvel ensemble movies at this point as we've spent good time with the majority of the core characters through their individual movies. This remains a bit of a gamble in contrast as we've not really seen Cavill's Superman fully formed, we've got a new take on Luthor, we've had no time to get used to Battfleck so his also has to succeed as a Batman franchise reboot, it's being used as means to put Wonder Woman on the big screen for the first time, likewise Doomsday.... It's got an awful lot to balance, and somehow Acquaman and others are going to get cameos in this too, right?

Aquaman is supposed to make a short cameo , not a main part . The rest are just supposed to be background hints.

What Doomsday is supposed to look like:

I watched it again this morning - it's really a rather poor trailer. I can't judge the movie by it but I have to agree that it has a very strong Spider-man 3 vibe. It should be called "Batman vs Superman Overstuffed". Curious to see if they do another stand alone ACTUAL Man of Steel 2 after this. It seems apparent that Superman is far from the main focus here.

I really liked the dynamic between Cavill and Affleck.

I've also done a complete 180 on Affleck as Wayne since seeing the trailers. I think they made a good decision with him.

I agree on Affleck, so far he looks good. My issue is Zack Synder, I don't feel any better about this film after seeing the trailer.
