Robot Monkey
From the horse's mouth: "There will be downloadable content through Xbox Live," says BioWare's Teresa Cotesta in an interview on GameBanshee.com. I have no word yet on what it might entail. Maybe a JK2 logo superimposed on the screen? The heads up was courtesy of Penny Arcade. I guess we're, what, two weeks away? Romier, please pick up a copy, tell me whether it's worth $50, realize you have no time for it and send it to me gratis. Thank you. -j
dogbert
I think this was announced a while ago to be honest. For me anyway, "Downloadable content" is such a imprecise term that it really doesn't sway me one way or another. It's by far the simplest Xbox Live support to get through QA and is usually little more than a token gesture as game content goes for non-XBL play games. The one exception is of course Splinter Cell, and which I'm confident cost Microsoft a bunch of cash. Strange how it's gone quiet on the Splinter Cell content front since the announcement of the sequel... As for KOTOR, looking forward to it, doubt I'll have time to play it straight off (like every other game right now), so it'll be a late pickup for me. Now if it has Jedi Kli as a downloadable character, that'd change everything.
adamsappel
What is the ratio of potential downloadable content to actual? Mech Assault seems to be the big winner. I noticed today that Toe Jam & Earl III has the "Downloadable Content" tag, but what if anything has been released? What games have actually had this happen? Splinter Cell had just the one extra level/mission, right? The new RTCW map comes later today and I hope it's better than "Barn", and not just another one unlocked from the disk. Romier S
I guess we're, what, two weeks away? Romier, please pick up a copy, tell me whether it's worth $50, realize you have no time for it and send it to me gratis. Thank you. Ill have it, though for the love of god I have no idea how I will find time to play it. I kid you not when I say that it will be sitting in its wrapping for at least 2 weeks before it get any significant play time with it. Between Star Wars Galaxies (I can quit anytime, I swear it) and trying to finish up Pirates of the Carribean for reviewing, the final countdown and trimmings for this site, and a 45+ hour a week job Im seriously nearing burn out stage right now. Hell Im suprised my wife hasnt slapped me a good one yet..(Man do I owe her some quality time......) I noticed today that Toe Jam & Earl III has the "Downloadable Content" tag, but what if anything has been released? Yes, 3 new levels and 3-5 (cant remember) extra characters were available for download with TJ&E. The game did terribly sales wise so I doubt you'll see anymore time put into the game. Too bad since I rather liked it (great multi-player game).

You know, Romier, I do have some prior reviewing experience, so if you feel like shunting any copies of Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour this way, I'd be happy to take THOSE off your hands . My forum could use the activity .
Robot Monkey
Well, as to RTCW, I remember them saying we are getting at least three maps. I think it's reasonable to assume that they put three maps on the disc and locked them. Why is the Barn so universally reviled? Is it because -- unaccountably -- it does not use the JK2 engine? Seriously, I like the map okay and wonder why so few people play it. Can a couple games of Barn be so much worse than the umpteenth iteration of Beach Invasion or Ice? BTW, the next map is called Chateau and comes out 6 August. Today's DLC is called Safe Mission. -j
Romier S
Why is the Barn so universally reviled? Is it because -- unaccountably -- it does not use the JK2 engine? Actually it does. Well it uses the Quake 3 engine which is what JK2 is based on.

Robot Monkey
And is a bitch. Especially if it's Scott, some other guy and I versus DVDGuru, Rainmaker and Grooving. I haven't played Barn in a long time, so maybe I'll make an effort to get on RTCW in the near future. -j
Buck
And is a bitch. Especially if it's Scott, some other guy and I versus DVDGuru, Rainmaker and Grooving. Yeah, that was a lot of fun Definitely a map where you want the teams unbalanced.
Rainmaykr
They WERE balanced. It was 3-on-3.
Robot Monkey
They WERE balanced. It was 3-on-3. That doesn't count since I was one of the three. But I kick major ass in other games. Some other games. One other game. No, it's from Canada, you probably never heard of it. -j
