Insomiac and Sony bring you Spider-Man exclusively to PS4 - September 7th, 2018 release date

Ugh. Think I’ve completely screwed myself on the platinum. I was spending challenge tokens on maxing out my gadget strength assuming that would be a trophy but it isn’t, so my last trophy is buying all the costumes and I just don’t think I have the skill or patience to get top scores on the Taskmaster challenges (I have Spectacular grades for most).

Spider-Dan, Spider-Dan, does whatever to platinum, man...   Replays shit, beats up thugs, probably drinks marmite from his mugs...   Etc

Well, fellas, it looks like I’m officially in the Spider-Man Platinum Club!   (This is my third Platinum trophy—the other two being Sly Cooper and the Theivius Raccoonus and Jak & Daxter

I think you can skip the dlc and start start a new "+" game to get the tokens necessary to unlock all suits. IIRC, that's what I did for the trophy.

Hmm. Yeah. Spectacular scores on all challenges and 19 tokens needed to buy the remaining costumes for a platinum.

Fuuuuck that. I’m out.

I specifically mentioned the issue a few times in the thread.  Thankfully, you only need to Gold/Ultimate 6 challenges to get what you need as each gives 3 tokens per IIRC. That’s cake, bro. You can Gold the four bomb challenges easy to get 12. It’ll take very little time. I even posted some vids on some earlier. The last two-three can be done via the stealth challenges. They are harder but not when you know the routes and they are easier than the drones. I’d pop up some walkthrough guides to make it easy and get you where you need to be. I generally try to drive these myself but if your goal is to get the plat, there’s nothing wrong with a little help.

Thanks. I had largely avoided the thread and reading up on achievements as I tend to like keeping things as fresh as possible these days. I’ll give it a whirl.

Funnily the bomb ones were the challenges I felt least likely to get top score on. As wonderful as thwipping around as Spidey is, set to a time limit the camera going against you, or getting yourself snagged on a stairwell or flag pole costs you dearly.

If you wind up getting the DLC for cheap at some point down the road, that'll help with challenge tokens as well.  There are a bunch of new challenges but no new gadgets, and all the DLC costumes are earned rather than purchased.  (I platinum'ed before the DLC dropped, but I still had a bunch of gadgets to upgrade and zero desire to perfect the Taskmaster challenges.  The DLC challenges with Screwball are generous enough with tokens that I was fully upgraded after Turf Wars.)

DONE!

The bomb mission videos were very helpful (thanks for sharing that, Romier). After those I went for max score on the three stealth missions and one of the combat missions which got me the remaining challenge tokens that I needed. Finally I just had to grab some base tokens which didn’t take long.

Won’t be investing in the DLC unless it is super cheap later in the year. Too much other stuff begging for my attention.

The sign of a good open-world game—I spent an hour and a half playing Spider-Man last night before bed and I didn't touch any of the story missions. I'm OK with this. I'm having fun. My only hang-up is that still really suck at stopping the random crimes (the goons take me out more often than not), but I invested in some web slinger upgrades last night, so that may help.

I'm having as much fun with this game as I hoped/expected I would.

Well that didn’t take long, City Never Sleeps DLC is on sale for 16.74 this weekend. Purchased and downloading now, looks like I’m swinging back into this game.

Yeah, I think I’ll dive into it as well this weekend. I needed a bit of a break from it given that I played it pretty intensely for a couple weeks before getting that Platinum trophy. I think I may try to do each part of it over the next few weekends to pace it out a bit.

Sony confirmed that there's no upgrade path to Remastered for owners of the current PS4 release except to buy Miles Morales (either the deluxe edition or paying to upgrade the standard edition):

Quote

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered is an enhanced version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, and is included as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for the PlayStation 5. In addition, players who purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 can upgrade at no additional cost to the PS5 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and can take advantage of a paid-upgrade to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered.

There are no plans currently to offer Marvel’s-Spider-Man: Remastered as a standalone. Players with a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 can purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on PS5. Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 also will be backwards compatible on PS5.

Let me get this straight.

  • You're buying a PS5 at launch
  • You're not interested in the PS5's most mainstream launch title
  • But you ARE interested in REPLAYING the PS5's most mainstream launch title's predecessor on the PS5

I'm trying to imagine the disgruntled twitter post and it is making me appreciate that I don't use Twitter.

Eh, I am planning to get it as my first PS5 purchase /shrug.

I’ll play that game again happily. I don’t love upgrade tax, but it’s also expensive for Miles on its own so I don’t care as much in this instance.

I find it mildly annoying, especially with so many other companies offering free upgrades, but I'm not opposed to paying.  I'm more annoyed by the precedent this sets.  Will the Last of Us II upgrade be gated behind Factions for $40 (or whatever)?  Or require another $20 on top of buying Factions?

And I realize there's still time before launch, but could they show us the upgrades instead of just telling us about them?
