Death Stranding - Kojima Production's first game (PS4) - Releasing November 8th , 2019

Recommended Posts

I always say I'm going to finish my backlog of games to catch up on the current hotness, but I've already fallen behind on RE 2 and God of War. Damn.

Looks fantastic!  I just hope it's more gameplay than cutscene.  Don't get me wrong, I like a good cutscene but the MGS games (for me) were unplayable because I had to spend too much time waiting around watching characters screw up eggs.  😛

MGSV was a pretty healthy mix that veered far more in the gameplay direction. Not that it was lacking in cutscenes but its a far cry from the excesses of MGS4.

Fair enough, I will admit I have not had a chance yet to try MGSV, so that's on me.  :D

Norman Reedus Describes Working With "Genius' Genius" Hideo Kojima on 'Death Stranding'

Patrick Shanley, writing for The Hollywood Reporter:

Quote

You were working with the other actors and Hideo onset?

Sometimes the other actors were there. A lot of times it was just me and Hideo. He would have a plastic baby doll on the ground and want me to cradle it and act like it’s dead. Then act like it’s alive. Then freak out because there’s handprints everywhere. You stand up and he goes, imagine there’s a thousand dead whales in front of you, and you’re like, 'What?!' His mind is on another level. He’s a genius’ genius. He and I got into a shorthand where he would look at me and he would point and frown and make a face and I would just go, yep, I got it. We sort of transcended the language barrier after a while. A lot of times a director will say, in this scene I think I should do it this way and they’ve rehearsed it in their head so much that when you throw something new at them they sort of short-circuit. There’s not room for interpretation. Hideo is the opposite. You’ll say, maybe I should do this, and he’ll say, yes! And then do this on top of that! He’s a collaborative mind. He wants to hear your input. If you don’t say anything, he’ll think there’s probably something wrong with you. He’s a lot of fun to work with. If he ever did a movie or anything else I would be there in a heartbeat.

There's lots of good stuff in this interview. One thing is clear though: Reedus really loves Hideo. It sounds like the two of them had a great time working together.

I think this is from a panel interview (there’s video) unless he’s repeating the same points.

Everyone seems to love Hideo. What kind of spell does he put on people? Can he even speak English? Celebrities he's involved with fawn over him. Geoff Keighly can barely contain himself when he talks about him. I think he instructs the Game Awards production crew to only shoot him from the waist up when Kojima is mentioned.

Reviews are out. Sounds like it’s ranging from great, to seriously “meh.  I’m off on launch day, and I had planned to get it. I may wait a bit to see what you guys think. I’m not a yuuuuuge Hideo fan. I’ve liked some of the MGS’s I’ve played but, I may wait this one out a bit.

Probably will sit this out. I get bored very quickly with expansive games like this unless the story is coherent and engaging and this sounds like it is not that kind of storyline.

Likewise, and I still have to play Breath of the Wild. That, and the new Star Wars game is looking neat.
