MS did say that they expect units to be restricted until middle of 2021. It reinforces the story about Sony going pretty strong on supply in the launch period. The rumor was to 11 million units available through the quarter into the end of the first fiscal year (which ends in April). We’ll see if they hit those targets. The PS4 by comparison sold 7 million in that timeframe.

They've been saying shortages up until April so hopefully that holds and I can still jump on one around Feb/March time. Fair chance demand will lessen across Europe sooner than it might in North America due to the stranglehold Playstation has on the market here. We'll see. Would be nice if Amazon would at least give me the opportunity to register for an alert when it comes back in stock. Perhaps they will in the weeks ahead.

They were doing this thing where you had to click Add to Cart, and then the button would change to Please Wait... After about 20 minutes, the button went back to Add to Cart and then I could complete the order. It was odd, but WAY better than my futile attempts on Walmart.

ChrisBardon 457
That's pretty cool-given that fact that it's not really getting direct HW access, I don't think the X would give much of a benefit over the S. Shame it's all UWP though.

iainl 676
Hi all. Particularly with these new consoles arriving, I know that a bunch of you have both two Xboxes in the house, and families. If I want to start playing multiplayer games with me on the new Xbox, and my son on the old one, will I need two Game Pass subscriptions as well?

Presuming your account has Gold + Game Pass - if you leave the "old" Xbox as your Home Xbox, anyone logged into it can play Game Pass + Xbox Live, even if you're not logged onto it or even if you're logged into another xbox. On the new Xbox, if you log in, you can play game pass + xbox live (but you'll need to have an online connection for verification AFAIK), and anyone else can play xbox live + game pass as long as you're still logged into that second machine. One exception is BC 360 titles - Xbox Live isn't "shared" on those because of BC software reasons. So my son can't play Skate 3 with his friends. Other than that, we're a two xbox/one sub household. My kids mostly play on the newer xbox where I auto-login, and play Minecraft/fortnite/whatever without any worries about having the subs on their personal accounts. iainl
iainl 676
Thanks! Think I’ll do it the other way round, and make the Series X home and relegate myself to the One S on the 1080p telly when we do that, because I’m a kind and generous soul. Who also can’t be bothered to stay logged in on the main console all the time.

You don't have to be logged into the main console at all-your son can log into the "Home/Primary" Xbox as himself, and you can log into the secondary Xbox as yourself, and you both have full access to everything. Here's the setup I have right now: Xbox One X-Home xbox in the basement. Kids can play anything they want on their own accounts (no auto logon) Xbox Series X-In my office. Kids don't get to use it yet. Has to be online to play anything, but that's fine as long as internet is up. Xbox One S-At my parents' place. Primarily a streaming box, but my kids sometimes use it while they're over there. If they want to play any of my games while there, they have to log into my account, and then switch to theirs. Means my account is still signed into that xbox, but they have their own profile/saves etc. It also means that I'll get booted off any other Xboxes I happen to be on at the time, but you can get around that by setting the home console to offline, which means I can be playing something on the OneX, and my son can be playing something at the Grandparents' house at the same time. Doesn't happen that often, but it works. It would be nice if there was a way to say "these three Xboxes can play all of my content, online or offline", but that's asking for a lot. Steam basically does this now though, so there's precedent? iainl
