Monster Hunter: Rise & Monster Hunter Stories 2 [Switch] - March & Summer 2021

Recommended Posts

I played hundreds of hours of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on the 3DS and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on the Switch (but only played a few hours of Monster Hunter World on the PS4 due to my PS4 being out of commission until recently). Rise looks like a combination of MHGU and MHW. The graphics look greatly improved over MHGU (which looked just like a 3DS game with a higher resolution and textures) with more varied terrain geometry. The gameplay feels more like classic Monster Hunter with the seamless play of World (no areas/loading screens). I was itching to play some Monster Hunter again. This is definitely a day one purchase for me.

  • Angry the Clown changed the title to Monster Hunter: Rise & Monster Hunter Stories 2 [Switch] - March & Summer 2021

I tried getting into this game series back during Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, and I just couldn't do it because there was no lore/story driving me. I'm watching gameplay videos for Rise, and while it looks and plays cool, it's just not clicking for me. I still must be missing something?

I have about 45 hours in to Monster Hunter Rise now and I have to say, to me, it's probably the best looking non-first party Switch game. Looks and runs great. If this is how good of a game Capcom can make on one of the first titles using the RE engine, I can't wait to see what they can do with a few years of experience.

I recently Monster Hunter World on my PS5 and played my save for about an hour. The graphics on World are obviously more detailed and realistic and, at least on the latest consoles, 60fps. But I prefer everything else about Rise: the vertical gameplay with the wirebugs, faster travel with palico riding, built-in monster tracking, rampages, radial menu shortcuts, riding monsters to attack other monsters, etc.

Hopefully, Capcom includes most of these additions in World 2.
