Romier S
Folks losing it over Obi-Wan and I'm over here jumping for joy for this. A supposed return to episodic Trek! I can't wait. JoeyN
Angry the Clown
Yes, the Obi Wan thing did nothing for me, but this looks promising, particularly with it returning to the episodic formula. I have no idea who will be airing this in the UK however.

OldDarth
Given the shit sandwiches the other current series have been been, this one seems to have a spark of the original Trek in it. Fingers crossed.
Romier S
Reviews are /extremely/ good calling this a return to form and everything that's good about Star Trek: https://aiptcomics.com/2022/05/01/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-first-impressions/ As a decades-long fan of Star Trek and an admirer of its ability to resolve problems in every episode while also imparting some wisdom, I must say I can't get enough of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. https://www.bostonherald.com/2022/05/01/the-enterprise-explores-strange-new-world-in-star-trek-prequel-series/ Fans of the original "Star Trek" will find a treasure trove of references to it and the franchise's history in a prequel series upcoming on Paramount+. https://www.cinemablend.com/streaming-news/why-star-trek-strange-new-worlds-is-the-perfect-entry-point-for-new-fans This show is the perfect entry point for anyone looking to get into Star Trek, which is truly the best thing about it. https://www.dailydot.com/unclick/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-review/ Like classic Trek, it spends a lot of time building friendships among the crew, often in lighthearted and comedic ways. The mood is uplifting and occasionally hokey. In the five episodes made available for review, the first was clunky while the next four ranged from delightful to amusingly corny. Simply put: I love it. https://gizmodo.com/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-review-paramount-plus-1848862048 The first 5 episodes of Strange New Worlds more than prove there's a place in contemporary Star Trek for some breezy, exciting, and self-contained stories. https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/star-trek-strange-new-worlds-review/ In a world where television is made to be binged and streamed, and not aiming for a casual audience on broadcast networks, it feels positively retro to tell a story like this (even Doctor Who went serialised for its last season). But it also feels great – not everything has to be so intense, universe-ending and emotionally driven. Sometimes it's fine to just tell satisfying, close-ended stories, and that's what Strange New Worlds delivers. https://trekmovie.com/2022/04/30/early-review-the-future-looks-bright-with-star-trek-strange-new-worlds/ From the first standalone episode, you get the sense this series has a lighter tone. While taking the job of exploring space seriously, this series remembers to have some fun along the way and to maintain a healthy level of optimism and even wonderment. Romier S
Well, I just loved every minute of this. It’s fucking Star Trek! Even down to the Enterprise reverence panning shots at the space dock.. The crew is great and I love seeing Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga. He was so good in Dune. Im so excited to see how this plays out but again, that first episode felt more like Star Trek than any of the Nu-Trek shows we’ve gotten and I’m not a Nu-Trek hater by any means. This just feels so damned good. PHiL
Angry the Clown
Paramount+ launches in June here which is where this will be streaming (the other shows had been spread across Netflix and Amazon). There's going to be a seven day trial so I'll give it a shot and see how I like this as I honestly don't know what else I'd watch on their service. OldDarth
Hell yeah! That's more like it. The show is very fortunate to have Anson Mount. He just oozes charm. Romier S

Robot Monkey
I'm caught up with "Spock Amok" and how did this happen?! Someone decided to make a modern version of TOS and pulled it off? I do not like nuTrek. At all. Take your "Discovery has righted the ship" and your "Picard is good stuff" and get in the sack to be hit by sticks. But this show is flat out amazing. It's cheesy -- like TOS! -- and it isn't truly episodic. But I don't care because it plays out like classic Star Trek. I'm assuming they'll fuck it up, because that's nuTrek's MO. But, gosh, they're doing things well so far! Somebody, somewhere got away with something. Romier S, Rainmaykr and Orpheus
Romier S
I don’t hate NuTrek at your level but yes, I couldn’t agree more with you on Strange New Worlds. It’s just pitch perfect so far and a vastly needed injection of the tried and true formula that made Star Trek what it is! Romier S
“Memento Mori” was sooooooo f’ing good. Fantastic setup for the Gorn as a real threat. An almost “Crimson Tide” submarine game of cat and mouse action in the gas cloud and just great character moments all over the place. They really did fuck around and finally make a great Star Trek show. Not only that but I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the strongest first seasons of any Trek show yet. I know and care more about this crew through 6 episodes than 4 seasons of Discovery. Please don’t fuck this up.:( I’m just utterly ecstatic to have a good and proper Star Trek show again! I like the solar sail ship, too. A nice callback (forward?) to the Bajoran Sail Ship in DS9.
Romier S
All caught up. The latest episode was the classic “moral dilemma” plot that Star Trek does so well. Me watching this show:
Robot Monkey
I actually laughed out loud a few times at Spock Amok. Even the title made me chuckle.
Romier S
Sort of all kinds of stunned they acknowledged Sybok! Not where I thought that was going. Captain Angel was a fun character and another solid episode. I love how they just glossed over the mutiny.:) Pike going pirate at the end got a good laugh out of me, too. From the moment Pike and Spock walked onto Discovery I wanted this show. They are fantastic as these characters. . Pikes plan had me laughing the entire time. Loved how the captured few got in on the fun.
