PS2 new ver.

I had a PS2 question and was hoping someone here may be able to help me, my brothers DVD player died and he wants to replace it with a PS2 so he can also play some(of my)games. I mentioned to him that I had heard something about the new version that has the built in IR port and the ability to play DVD R/RW'S among other improvements, he's got himself set that he wants to get the new version now but I don't even know if it's out yet here and if so how can I tell the difference when buying? I picked my PS2 up at launch and it's still going strong so I didn't bother to really keep up with the news on this new version, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe that got launched in the US.

Oops. Sorry everyone.

Personally, I want the white one that they launched recently in Japan with GT: Prologue. But then, I want the white XBox as well. [/b]

I wish all consoles came in white.

Thanks a lot guys, I knew somebody here would know. I agree about the differing console colors, anything but black would be good. I think my DC is probably my favorite looking console although I have had friends who had them and somehow managed to get them filthy, you see a lot of trade in DC's that are all marked up as well so maybe there's a case for the black.
