Chatakinns
After looking over our X-Box disc for Outlaw Volley Ball and finding the big scratch on it that apparently does not affect game play at all, I looked over several other games we own and have never loaned out to anyone and to my surprise a lot of them have small scratches on them. We are very careful with our games and DVD's and do not loan many out to anyone since they have a tendency not to be as careful as we are. Is there something that is causing this to happen ? Is it normal that some scratches happen in the system somehow ?
Camp
I've read a few theories that suggest the scratch in Outlaw Volleyball is intentional. Some part of the manufacturing process or an anti-piracy device of some kind. I wonder if it's nothing more than a visual form of anti-piracy. If they find a case of suspected pirated copies on a dock in Hong Kong they can quickly look for the "scratch" to identify it as real or not. Perhaps someone has some real info? Chatakinns
It's not that one I am worried about .... I am more worried about the ones we own that are getting scratches somehow. It seems to happen in the system itself.
Graeme
What kind of scratches are they? Most XBox games have some light ringing that you can see and may think is a circular scratch. And even if you are extremely careful, you can sometimes pick up the odd scratch without realizing it. As for Outlaw, the link provided in the other thread to the Hypnotix board has info that not all the current discs have the scratch, and that future batches should not have them either. The reason it does not affect gameplay is because the data doesn't get out that far on the disc, so I'm not sure how it could possibly be an anti-piracy device. Trying to get the disc in the tray and missing might give it a small scratch or two. I was just shocked to see them there at all. Like I said, we are so careful about how they are handled, it really surprised me to see most of the discs had them.
Orpheus
Hypnotix's forum went down and they lsot alot of teh post from those first couple of days the game was out, but the gist of the official message was that the machine packing the discs at the plant was slightly misaligned, so a good portion of what is out in stires right now has the scratch in it. Chatakinns
Ok ..... for the last time ....... it is NOT the OutlawVolleyball disc scratch I am worried about. The Outlaw Volleyball disc was what made me look at some of our other discs and I saw little scratches on them. Not big ones .... and so far they have not affected game play on any of our games, I was just wondering if sometimes the consoles and constant playing the games can cause scratches on the discs over time. * sigh, I feel so misunderstood sometimes. * I have read the forums and info on the Outlaw Volleyball game and everything is all good with that game for us. Chatakinns
We interrupt this thread to bring you breaking news that repeated explanations of something that had already been explained and understood have driven a local Rhode Island woman raving mad. When last seen she was running down a the main street screaming "X-Box discs are made from people !!!!! "

Camp
you cockbiting fucktards We're not the fucktards who scratched the disc. I think the cockbiters you want to take on are the people over at Vivendi. Just to prove I'm not a fucktard I'll even provide their phone number so you can resolve your issue with Outlaw Volleyball: 212-209-4600
Chatakinns
Dear Romier and Kelley, I would like to inform you that you are seriously lacking in the emoticon department. It has come to my notice that there is no emoticon that depicts smily banging his head against a wall or table in dispair and frustration. Please address your esteemed selves to this matter as directly as possible, as forum members with SERIOUS questions have become somewhat of a dying breed due to our heads exploding over the hijinks and hilarity that the forum fucktards insist on inflicting upon those of us who have a studious nature and try treat this forum with the respect and sobriety it deserves. Thank you.

Orpheus
you could always get a disc doctor to try and buff the scratches out if they really bother you

malefic99
Im very careful with my discs too but they do tend to have scratches & fingerpints. I guess just from taking them out of the case and putting them into the tray and vice versa. but these scratches dont cause any problems. sometimes I'm watching a dvd and it will freeze up. I take it out of the player and I see a big ol fingerprint on it.. I usually spit on it and dry it with my t shirt in straight strokes from the center of the disc towards the edge. when I finish you can usually see small scratches. I guess I need to clean these discs a different way
