Romier S
Came upon what appears to be a press release from Codemasters on the release of Colin 4. Source is unknown right now (though I'm digging) so please take this with a grain of salt until I can find confirmation: New York, NY ? January 22, 2004 ? Codemasters, a global interactive entertainment software publisher, announced today that its internationally acclaimed rally game, Colin McRae Rally 04, is coming to the U.S. for the Xbox? video game system from Microsoft. The title will be available this March at a special suggested retail price of $19.99. The gear grinding action is more intense than ever in the newest version of this award winning series. Instinctive car handling combined with new championships, custom rallies, new single and multiplayer gaming modes, and unique car part testing deliver the perfect rally gaming experience. Players can drive in over 20 vehicles constructed in exquisite detail with improved physics and handling, giving the player even more control. The Mitsubishi EVO 7, Subaru Impreza and Citroen Xsara, alongside classic cars, are just some of the vehicles players can take through the mud and rocks. An advanced visual engine creates dramatic replays in jaw-dropping detail. Additional game features include: ? 48 tracks and 4 shakedown stages through 8 countries including the U.S., UK, Australia and Japan. ? Player can compete in a full rally season or specialize in a 4 or 2 wheel drive championship. ? New Expert Championship Mode demands the best performance from the most die-hard rally fan with its tough damage settings and ultra-competitive AI drivers. ? Car part testing helps the player acquire new technology increasing the chance of success. ? Stages and Rally modes allow the player to race against the clock or go multiplayer with split screen play with up to four players. Saved runs can be seen on the stage as a ghost car. ? Create a Custom Rally with favorite or themed stages that can be compiled, saved and played at any time. ? Players can compete for best stage times and upload their times online using Xbox* Live. Easy purchase for me if it is indeed true. The third game was great.
Beer Monkey
My pet theory is that if they are selling it for $20, it is because they don't think it can compete with the likes of PGR2 at $40-$50.
Buck
If true, I'm on it like a hat
Romier S
Could also be that Codemasters doesn't see Rally racing being as popular in the US? I do believe Colin 4 has been available in Europe for some time and has sold decently correct?
adamsappel
IN! Rally racing is sadly underappreciated here. I didn't get CMR3 as I didn't like the single-car aspect, but at $20 (and with more cars to choose from), CMR4 is a done deal. It'll be fun to "race" against others via time trials on Live. Between this and RC2, my rally cup will finally be full.
rustyjaw
I was planning on buying it for $50, so this will just mean I leave the store $30 richer
Dan B.
Yeah I saw this earlier. (and it's posted at the Codemasters website if you needed confirmation) This is the price point where I just buy a game without thinking twice about it. A no-brainer purchase for a racing game fan. dogbert
Interesting choice by Codemasters. Do you release at $50 in a market where you're little more than a niche game & maximise your profit per copy sold to that niche, or do you sell for the minimum price you can to try & get a little more market share. They've got for the latter. Hope it does well for them as it's a great series. Hugely popular in Europe.
Graeme
NICE! I'll be getting that one fer sure. CMR3 is still like $50 here.
matt
This is definitely a good thing. I picked up CMR3 wehn it first came out on a whim. I like rally games, but haven't owned one in a while. Good stuff. I still haven't raced all the way through though. Maybe CMR4 will change that... AnthonyVolpe
Not only am I buying it but I'm keeping CMR3 as well. $20? Cripes, I'm there!
exile
For $20 I'll take a stab at it.

rustyjaw
There's a preview at IGN. Here's something I didn't know: ...Colin McRae Rally 04 is scheduled for release only on the Xbox in the US That's very interesting. I wonder if RSC has somehow helped make the Xbox the unofficial rally platform in the US? Or am I reading too much into that? Anyone know where I could find the sales breakdown for CMR3 on Xbox vs PS2 in the US?
