Chris F
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net It's essentially a DOS emulator, and lets you play older DOS based games. I'll more than likely be trying it with Doom I/II and a few older titles once it supports them. There is a listing of supported titles available at the link above. Kain rising
Sweet. I've been wanting to play Dark Forces again for some reason, and I haven't been able to get it to work so far. Maybe this'll do the trick.
Chris F
Jason, it looks like Dark Forces is "playable" with the .60 release of DOSBox. SO I think you may be in luck! Let me know if it works!
Mark E
Bless you. Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is supported by this thing. I'm downloading it this very second :green:. For anybody else curious about OTHER ways to play the old games, ScummVM is awesome for running LucasArts games, and you can get a patch for the Win3.1 version of Gabriel Knight: Beast Within . Unfortunately two games I'm dying to play again, Crusader: No Remorse and System Shock, aren't supported yet, but this is a good start . I still have ALL my old DOS games back home. Edit: ARRRGH! I couldn't get it to work, kept dropping me with some damn audio error. Life is a harsh mistress.
Chris F
That sucks Mark. I haven't tried it yet, but I know a few people who've used it and it worked well. Granted it wasn't with Gabriel Knight, but perhaps there's some information in the readme file that could help you out.
secretvampire
Oooooooh....thanks so much for the heads-up on this application! I have been waiting for something like this for years...I would just love to go back and play some older games. I was actually looking into using one of my old machines and setting it up as a DOS/Win98 dual-boot machine or something, but now I won't have to go through all of that hassle! Covak
Yay DOSbox I used an older version (almost a year ago) to play through Star Control II again. It did take some tweaking to get it running right, but then it was pretty much perfect, so don't give up on it if it doesn't work right away. Chris F
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net Version 0.61 of DOSBox is out. No list of working/non-working games, but the list of changes can be viewed at the above link.
