Robot Monkey
Science geeks might want to check out PloS Biology, an "open access" science journal. All works published in the PLoS Biology are open access. Everything is immediately available without cost to anyone, anywhere ? to read, download, redistribute, include in databases, and otherwise use ? subject only to the condition that the original authorship is properly attributed. Copyright is retained by the author. PLoS Biology features works of exceptional significance in all areas of biological science, from molecules to ecosystems, including works at the interface with other disciplines, such as chemistry, medicine, and mathematics. In addition to research articles they things like book reviews, essays and primers on subjects like comparative genomics. -j
rustyjaw
It's ironic that you'd post this today as earlier I was trying to track down a journal paper from 1995. The journal is called "Cognitive Development" and I figured that being so old it would be ~$5 to buy the paper. ScienceDirect.com has C.D. but they want $30 to download an 8 year old paper!! Journals are expensive enough new, but that's outrageous...where the hell is that money going? /rant Thanks for the link!
Robot Monkey
I should also add that it's pretty new. IIRC, the backlog (always available on the web!) consists of two older issues. If it takes off we might be witnessing something new and a huge step in the right direction. I heard one of the persons behind plosbiol on NPR a month or two ago. -j
