The Daisy
I'm up for a fantasy league. I'm a Brewers fan which pretty much means that our season is over right after pitchers and catchers report. Glen
JTello
Man, I've been counting the days for pitchers and catchers since the World Series ended Yeah, I know how you feel, ...Man, I've been counting the days for pitchers and catchers since .... the Super Bowl! Yeah, it's been a good baseball off season here in N.E. -It looks like there is interest here for an all LCVG fantasy league. I'd be willing to set up a Yahoo fantasy baseball league, it's free, you only need to set up a yahoo ID. The site says that leagues will be available in mid February. Here's a link. We can play head-to-head or Rotisserie style. (I'll put in my vote for Rotisserie, but I'll play either way, based on the majority rule voting). -Of course there are plenty of options for setting up a league so let's discuss what options we are all interested in and we can organize this. We can also play for a prize if everyone agrees. Like $5.00 to play, and the winner gets a video game of thier choice at the conclusion of the season. (And Bruce, if you want a real run for your money, and your short a manager for your league, you should invite me to your draft. You would certainly be the one to feel the agony of defeat THIS time. :green: )

Bruce B
We can play head-to-head or Rotisserie style I have no preference, sounds like fun. My only trepidation is that if Jtello wins that he'll flip a car and set it on fire, he is from the Boston area you know. Joel, I'm unfamiliar with Yahoo's fantasy league, are you playing against the masses, or would we be a league independently?
JTello
Your league is independent on Yahoo, but you can still see how your team compares to other teams. Like even though you are in an exclusive league, the top teams among all of the leagues show up on a general leaderboard. More or less for shits and giggles, but fun to see anyway. The Daisy
I'd be in for $5 bucks. Just let me know what we'd need to do. Glen
JTello
Maybe one of the moderators can split the fantasy information off into it's own thread. I don't want to drag the topic away from the original discussion. The new thread will be solely for the league discussion. I'd like to get more feedback as we move forward, ok. Feel free to make suggestions and comments. Note: I intend to do all of the work necessary to get the league up, and to maintain the commitment of league managers. As many here have certainly experienced, leagues often falter when the commissioner slacks off. I for one get annoyed when effort and time are wasted when people let things slide. In a nut shell, I'm interested in created a fun relaxing league consisting of managers committed to seeing the league through fully. I'm looking forward to starting this league, I've played in many leagues, but this will be my first commissioning experience. 8)
Bruce B
Note: I intend to do all of the work necessary to get the league up, and to maintain the commitment of league managers Thank you for taking the initiative as I echo your sentiments from being in a half-assed league in the past and therefore starting my own league. Joel, if you like, I will be your backup as commissioner if youre on vacation etc. You can count on me, I'm not a slacker. :green:
Angel P
As many here have certainly experienced OK, I'll admit it: I've never been in one. But count me in.
Bruce B
I'm a Brewers fan My condolences. Maybe you can help me with my quandry in my league. We have to protect eight players from last year and I have Podsednik who got me alot of stolen bases. Was it a fluke or is he the real deal?
JTello
Bruce, Tough decision on what to do with Podsednik, you don't have much history to go on. But this is my take, he's 27, been in the minors most of his career, and he had not before shown the offensive production he put up 2003. I figure 27 is near a guys peak, and none of his other numbers are anything to write home about, and I say trade him if you can. Wall Street would say buy low, sell high,..... sell high! IMHO that is. His only value to me would be as a buffer to my steals, not one to rely on heavily,... if at all.

The Daisy
Well, I guess it would depend on the other guys that you have on your squad. Podsednik is a great player, with a good deal of potential, but he could fall off a bit this year, as most player do after their initial season. JTello
The 2004 LCVG Fantasy Grapefruit League Updated Managers Roster Note : The league will consist of 10 or 12 teams depending on members response. ....Team .............................. Manager 1. 2. Madison Hatters............... Glen 3. The Green Monsters......... Joel (JTello) 4. FreeBasers....................... Bryan 5. Sucking Chest Wounds..... Bruce 6. The Evil Empire................. Angel 7. NY Maqui.......................... Joey 8. Nomahs Nuckleheads....... Joel (Whooter - a.k.a. Evil Joel  ) 9. Mud Buggs....................... Brian 10. (Not set yet)................... Josh 11. 12. I will be updating this list necessary. I'll also keep everyone updated as to when the Yahoo fantasy baseball site goes live for this season so we can set up the league. As I mentioned before, Yahoo says the site will be live mid-February. MLB.com lists the last spring training game for Sunday April 4th, so we will need to schedule our live draft by that date. A draft will probably take roughly an hour and a half of your time. Again that's a rough estimate. I assume the majority of managers would prefer a weekend draft, so one thing we can do right now is take a majority vote on the draft date The possible weekend dates are March 6th, 7th, 13th, 20th, 21st, 28th or April 3rd or 4th. I guess the first step is to ask --Is there any date that any manager NEEDS to exclude right off the bat? I'd like to work this out so we can insure everyone gets to particiapate. There's nothing worse than having the computer auto draft a bunch of lame players because a manager doesn't show up, ya know. (In case your wondering, yes you can set up an auto-draft list in case you can't show up, but you wouldn't want to auto-draft by choice,.... no one needs a computer drafting 3 relief pitchers and 2 catchers in the first 5 rounds. Bruce B
Lets start the draft right now.........I just selected Arod....sorry guys The only date thats definitely out for me is March 27th because thats the day of the draft for the league I started. Joel, being unfamiliar with the way Yahoo works I have a few questions. 1) Does it use a salary cap, and is it possible for a certain player to be on more than one time or once a player is drafted, then he is off the table. 2) Are there only certain categories for stats? For instance in my league there are 5 batting categories(avg,hr,rbi, runs,sb) and 4 pitching categories(wins, era,k's,saves) that you use to compete. 3) I would be up for upping the ante a little bit from $5 a piece but if thats what everyone else wants thats fine with me.
JTello
Reply to Bruce's questions: 1. No salary cap, and once a guy is drafted he's gone. 2. Which stats we use are up to the commissioner. You're at my mercy Seriously, if anyone has input on the stats they'd like included or not included for whatever reasons, I'm open. 3. I'm also open as to the ante/prize structure. If you have suggestions please post them, we can get an idea how people feel about the $$$ we put in. So far we will all be putting up $5, and it can be upped if there is a consensus of opinion. As for my stance, I'm willing to raise the stakes,... The greater the risk, the greater the possible reward. Plus, the more people have invested the stronger their commitment to the league will be. Whooter
Sign me up. I fear there's going to be a lot of competition for Red Sox players in this league... Any of those draft dates look okay to me at this point.
The Daisy
The 27th or the 28th could be bad for me. The other dates all look fine to me. Glen
JTello
Welcome Joel, I've added you to the manager list.
