Will update when I get that information for you. Some thoughts: -Sonic continues to be a seller on the GCN. The other platforms did not receive Sonic until the end of the month so its too early to give a definite on that but almost 200k sold is a great number for Sega and the GCN -Halo *IS* the Goldeneye of this generation. It just continues to sell and sell and sell. (Super Smash Bros is not far behind in that regard since it continues to rack up the numbers!) -Baldurs Gate II posted some decent sales across the PS2 and the Xbox. Fallout is no where to be seen (which is not a suprise). -Prince of Persia finally breaks into the top ten. About time too. Hopefully I'll get that hardware sales data and complete PS2 listing soon. Mark E
Nice, I'm glad Sonic Heroes did so well, makes the third party thing on the Cube look good .
The Daisy
It's shocking to me that Sonic Heroes outsold everything except NFL Street (PS2) for the month of January. I didn't think the game did all that well, but go figure. Glen
paul h
Do these figures include copies of Halo that are bundled along with the XBox or actual sales of the game alone? I feel sorry for the people that bought Kakuto Chojin!! Nice to see SEGA have some chart success, shame the game ain't much good. Where's Mission Impossible Operation Surma? nowhere to be seen on the XBox sales list..

The 38 madmen who splashed out for that are dwarfed by the 2227 who mistakenly (I can think of no other explanation) purchased Blood Wake. Thats over a quarter of the number of people who bought 1080: Avalanche, for goodness sakes! What is wrong with everyone? Avalanche is brilliant. January Videogame Sales Results ? Overall videogame software sales were up 18% year over year for the month of January, the strongest growth the industry has seen since the May ?03 hardware price cuts. 128- bit software sales were up 22% year over year, and GBA software sales were up 38% y/y. 128- bit hardware sales were down 5% y/y in January as the $179 price point is stretched further, bringing the install base of 128-bit consoles to 37.6 million in the U.S. GBA hardware sales grew 13% y/y, bringing the install base to 20.2M in the U.S. ? Electronic Arts (ERTS, $44.90, OUTPERFORM, TP $60.00, OW) U.S. videogame sales were stronger than expected for the month of January, up 48% versus last year due to the strength of NFL Street and Need for Speed: Underground. NFL Street on the PS2 was the #1 game across all platforms for the month, and the title sold approximately 531,000 units in the US across three platforms. This result is particularly impressive given the tough comparison created by the Jan02 release of The Sims on PS2, which sold 265k units. ? Activision, Inc. (ATVI, $20.98, OUTPERFORM [V], TP $22.00, OW) U.S. sales increased 42% year over year for the month of January, due to the relatively easy year over year comparison. The company?s Tony Hawk Underground and True Crime continue to sell well, selling 76,000 and 166,000 units respectively in the month. ? THQ, Inc. (THQI, $18.30, OUTPERFORM, TP $22.00, OW) U.S. sales increased 24% year over year in January driven by WWE Here Comes The Pain, Tak & the Power of JuJu and Spongebob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. ? For Take Two Interactive (TTWO, $32.57, OUTPERFORM [V], TP $50.00, OW) sales in January were up 21% y/y. The company?s Grand Theft Auto Double Pack continues to sell well with 157,000 units sold in the month between the PS2 and Xbox versions. Midway Games, Inc. (MWY, $5.43, UNDERPERFORM [V], TP $1.50, OW) U.S. sales in the month of January were down 50% year over year. The company will report Q4?03 earnings on February 25th. The dial in number for the conference call is (706) 679-4674. ? This was clearly a strong result for the group (the strongest in dollar growth since May of '03), particularly for EA. While hardware growth remains nonexistent, the decline in PS2 volumes and share should add motivation for a price cut to $129 rather than $149. We believe that being overweight the group continues to make sense given the impact of a hardware price cut, strong first half release schedule, and relatively attractive valuations. Beer Monkey
It's always kind of sad to see EA PS2 ports outselling superior original XBox games like PGR2. But, I'm used to it.
General Zot
I'm surprised the install base is as close as it is. Xbox = GC and both are doing decently next to the PS2. Definitely shocked Halo is still in the top 5 of Xbox sales, that game is just liquid gold for Microsoft. If they can get Halo 2 out by October/November (and it delivers as expected), I can't even imagine the sales on that title next year this time. Guess what title is going to launch with the Xbox Next if MS has half a brain?
adamsappel
I'm surprised that there's a sports game on the GameCube in the top twenty (it is NFL Street, true, and perhaps not a "real" sports game). I wouldn't call it a PS2 port, though, perhaps "optimized for PS2" is more accurate. It's a hell of a fun game and I bought it for both PS2 and Xbox. iainl
Expect XBox to gain at least a little ground in coming weeks. Those two limited editions of 5000 each had their pre-orders sell out pretty fast, though admittedly in no small part due to purchases for export. I think Microsoft's real problem with the XBox figures is that the machine really only appeals to the 'serious' gamer over there. Who is importing from the US to get stuff straight away. adamsappel
Don't the Japanese mostly consider the Xbox to be the console you only play DOA3 and DOA:XBV on? Kind of like buying a Neo Geo just to play Metal Slug 3.
Beer Monkey
Well, I'd imagine some people are buying for Tekki (Steel Battalion), and at least some for the killer Sega franchise exclusives of Jet Set Radio Future and Panzer Dragoon Orta.
