Romier S
Taken from the Gaming Age forum here: Doom 3 in Gamepro Heres the gist of the post: "I am not surprised that this has not been posted already because it was in Gamepro, but the newest issue had a really good article about the Xbox version of Doom III. It was 4 or 5 pages and had alot of info and sreenshots covering it's development. The game resolution is lower for the obvious reason but it looks just as sharp as any other top tier Xbox title and Gamepro said it supports 480p and pretty much looks better than any other game supporting 480p on the Xbox right now. The article also said that everything from the PC version has made it into the Xbox version (lighting, bumpmapping, geometry, levels, physics, animation and every other graphic trick used).Bigger levels will not be rebuilt smaller but rather will be broken into two or three areas. Vicarious Visions stated that they were also able to write some custom backdoor hacks for the Xbox Nvidia chip that is not possible on pc cards (because of the style and variety of chips) that helped them a great deal. The game will support 4 player deathmatch and two player co-op over live. Great article a lot more info in there for anyone interested in this game." As always I take any of these posts with a large grain of salt until I see the article for myself so I can't quite comment on its veracity just yet. However I will say that 2 player co-op on Live sounds great!
foogledricks
This is the first interesting thing about Doom 3 that I have heard. There has been so much hype about this game, and the only thing that is appealing about this game to me, is that it seems like their 'trying' to make it slow and scary. I've grown tired of the fast-paced unreal-like shooters. Now with co-op, I am somewhat interested.
bickle
I guess I'm the opposite. I want it faster and demonic. I miss the days of Doom & being in a darked room surrounded by a bazillion imps and only a shotgun to clear a path. I am not surprised that this has not been posted already because it was in GameproLol, I guess it's because no one reads Gamepro. -Dave
bickle
Glad to hear about co-op. Maybe co-op is starting to make a resurgence... -Dave
iainl
I'm really surprised by the claim that its only 4-player deathmatch. 4 is a really low number for this sort of thing, so I guess its going to be just used for that 2-player co-op really. foogledricks
Splinter Cell 2 is four player as well. From what I read, it makes it a truly intense experience when the missions and environments are developed specifically for that number of people. I imagine that the same will be true for Doom. These numbers fit into their slower, scarier, more intense goals with the game. This is not Quake. And I welcome that... there are far too many Quake/Unreal - like games, do we really another one? bickle
Heck, I thought Quake and Unreal were slow. I want Doom-style lightning fast blood-n-guts! -Dave
Beer Monkey
With a joypad, I feel slower games play better. If I want fast, I go PC.
matt
I just hope this game lives up to the hype. I remember playing through Doom I and II on the pc back in the day and having a blast. I know my current pc won't handle the graphics in Doom III, so the Xbox version better be up to par. As for online multiplayer, as log as Halo 2 doesn't get delayed again, and it has 8, 12 or hopefully 16 player death matches and whatnot, I'll be a happy camper :green:
AnthonyVolpe
Doesn't matter to me whether or not Doom III has 4-player deathmatch or 32-player. I'll still suck worse than the other players because I don't spend 10 hours a day on XBox Live like they do. My only solace is that the majority of those ten hours of MY life are spent at a JOB. Angel P
Just read the Gamepro article. I can't wait for this game. Although there's no official release date, Doom III is 1 of only 2 upcoming games that I'd get on release date. The other being Metroid Prime 2. The Daisy
I guess it might just be me... but I've just got no interest in this game. All of these "bloated" screenshots just don't seem to be doing it for me. Sure, graphically it looks stellar... but I guess this one just isn't for me. Romier S
All of these "bloated" screenshots just don't seem to be doing it for me. Not sure what you mean by "bloated"? You say the game is graphically stellar but consider the screens "bloated" as in? Perhaps hype?
kelley
man they really have had to turn the texture quality down in the Xbox version.
DataScion
man they really have had to turn the texture quality down in the Xbox version. True enough, I suppose. But, know ing Carmack's tendency toward steep system requirements, even the best off of us may have trouble running it with full effects on our PCs. Hmm, I have to admit I don't see a significant amount of difference. A guy over at Evil Avatar's put up a couple of shots comparing the pc version to the Xbox version and I found myself pretty impressed at how close the Xbox version looked. I have no doubt that in the end the pc version is going really be the stand out version but they've done a nice job, IMO, in getting it to look that good on 3 year old hardware. The Daisy
Sorry... I should have been more clear. "Bloated" as in the fact that most screen shots keep showing that fat guy that looks all bloated. Heck if there was a title that made me sick of it due to hype, it would have been Ninja Gaiden. Boy, sign me up for that club as well. I'm glad that some games like Crimson Skies come naturally to me, but I can't fight my way out of a wet paper bag when it comes to Rainbow Six 3, and I just don't have the time to put into it to become "l337".
