Mark E
After reading this week's Gamespotting I noticed the article about Soldat, a new 2D shooter. Downloaded it and it's quite fun. It plays a lot like Abuse, which some of you guys may remember from a while back as a 2D shooter where you controlled the character with a keyboard and aimed with the mouse. Same deal, but the Soldat landscapes look like Worms and Lemmings. It's got robust multiplayer components (DM, Team DM, CTF, etc) and just about any PC today will run it (I believe minimum spec is 333 mhz). My buggy won't run a server, but if anybody else wants to we could see about throwing together an LCVG crew for a bit o' the old ultraviolence. Yes, attempt at PC gaming #232048 . Straight to the download please!
blackcalx
Downloading now. I tried this game back before it was at 1.0 and enjoyed it versus a few bots, but never tried it against live humans. Here's hoping that attempt #232048 works. iainl
I'll give this a download and try either tonight or later in the week; I've heard really good things about it in the past. Someone called it a cross between a platformer and Counterstrike, which is 'interesting' to say the least.
blackcalx
So...when do we play? I've played a few of the maps with bots and can't wait to get it going with some real people.

rustyjaw
It plays a lot like Abuse, which some of you guys may remember I remember Abuse, do you remember that it was developed by Bungie, before Halo was even a dream.... blackcalx
Would anybody be interested in playing tonight? I'd be happy to try hosting. If tonight is bad perhaps Friday? Let me know, I'd like to give this a try.
Robot Monkey
I downloaded it and would like to join you fellers online some time. I really don't know the controls/game yet, so I'd like to find a chance to practice offline first. -j
Mark E
D'oh, sorry I missed this blackcalx. I'm going to be around tonight (Saturday) studying so I'm up for some shooting up of me for a bit of a break . I dunno you need a lot of practice, Jay, the controls are pretty basic and I even managed kills in the last game I was in, which was literally my first time playing the game ever . iainl
Well, I actually gave this a go briefly last night. Seems a bit sparse in terms of level design, and I got my arse handed to me bigtime, but its novel. My biggest mistake, though, was control layout - I kept grenading when I wanted to jump, and half my deaths were self-inflicted...

I keep dropping my weapon (F key by default) on accident when trying to move. Nothing is more embarrasing that jumping into the fray without your minigun. Luckily I always keep my chainsaw on hand just in case. That reminds me, I need to create a profile for Soldat on my Nostromo n52.
