blackcalx
I recently purchased a MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 stick. Initially I wanted it in order to rule the skies in Battlefield 1942 and Desert Combat. However, I've found that I actually enjoy the complexities of flying more than the combat itself. I was hoping I could tap your collective mind and find out what flight simulators I should look into. BF1942 is quite simplistic in it's approach to flight (among other things) and I was hoping for something with more meat, something that would require more finesse and knowledge. Microsoft has always had a good name when it comes to flight simulators. Should I check out Flight Simulator 2002? What about Combat Flight Simulator 2002? I've heard a few good things about IL-2 Sturmovik as well. I can read all the reviews you throw at me, but I'd really like your personal opinions. iainl
Presumably, on the Flight Sim front it would be better to get the new one - Flight Sim 2004 is out any day now; Play.com already have stock.
Rainmaykr
What about a good F-18 sim? Hell, at this point I'll take Falcon 5.0. Any good jet fighter sims? Does Flight Simulator have planes of that level, or as add-ons?
kelley
Flight Simulator 2004 should be out soon.
Chris F
I've read that IL-2 Sturmovik is a fantastic WW2 flight sim. Lots of planes, and very authentic. There is also an expansion that is supposed to be excellent as well. http://www.il2sturmovik.com/
kelley
I have played extensives amounts of IL2, just be prepared to die...............alot, for a while. Its a pretty game, just takes some dedication to get it all down.
blackcalx
Can anybody compare IL-2 Sturmovik to MS Combat Flight Simulator? I'm looking for something a little less arcade-like, but not hair-pulling in it's detail, at least at this point. If I feel that I still enjoy the genre I might like to try my hand at piloting a Boeing 747.

If you don't mind playing an older game, WWII Fighters from EA Janes sounds exactly like what you are looking for, plus you still can find people out there playing it online.
