danger9777
http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=661 Couldn't wait to see whether Sony could cut into Nintendo's stranglehold on the portable market? The wait's going to be a bit longer now, as Sony has announced the delay of their PSP handheld; while the PSP will still launch in Japan during this year's holiday season, US and Europe retailers won't see it until 2005. However, the delay is not a very long one: the system is still expected to ship globablly before the March 2005 end to this fiscal year. "The reason we pushed it out here is we wanted to be sure there's a reasonable amount of software titles to launch with hardware," said Teresa Weaver, a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment. Romier S
Danger I edited that post out so that it quoted a section of the article instead of the full article. Make sure not to post full content from another site. Thanks.
Camp
Should be expected. When is the last time a new platform launched simultaneously in the US & Japan? Never?
rustyjaw
Eh, it will make the holidays that much more financially agreeable. I'm pretty sure that I'll want one as soon as they're available, and during the holidays that could mean coal for family and friends... Big Daddy Bling Bling
This is one of the main reasons I hope Microsoft continues to do well. I'm tired of getting the shaft each time a new system is released. Hopefully Sony will do the sporting thing and drop the region lockout as Nintendo did with the GBA, but I seriously doubt it. I'm tired of getting the shaft each time a new system is released. How are you getting the shaft each time a new system is released? Xbox released later in Japan than the US...it's just logistically very difficult to release a new platform (of anything) on two culturally different continents simultaneously. dogbert
I'm tired of getting the shaft each time a new system is released. 1. It's insanely hard to build enough hardware to satisfy demand in one territory never mind world-wide. 2. It's insanely hard just to build devkits for worldwide developers! 3. Six months staggered release gives Western aimed developers more time to get their games good enough for release. 4. Generally, with one or two key titles per platform the exception, Japanese launch software bites for pretty much all recent launches. This is a good thing. It's Sony being realistic for a change instead of pushing the hardware out in pathetically low numbers (which they may still do, of course...). Still curious why you're "getting the shaft" by a staggered release? Is it just a case of "must have rightaway" envy?

It's insanely hard just to build devkits for worldwide developers! Agreed on these two points, so why not release the system in the US first and make Japan wait? adamsappel
Probably because they're a Japan-based company.

Either way, as European Scum, I expect to see it at least 6 months after everyone else is bored, in any case. As Brian said, this is a good thing. There won't be anything worth buying on it for months, so you don't want one this Christmas anyway.
danger9777
You're right about that. The most recent EGM showed the first screenshot of one of games EA is working on for the PSP. It's a Lord of the Rings Kart racing game. It's called Mordor GP or something. It sounds pretty lame to me and seems like one of the worst ideas for making a kart racing game. EDIT: Although, now that I think about it, it could be an EGM April Fool's joke since it's the April issue. Let's hope it is

I have no clue what your talking about, everyone loves the Europeans! There is even a new movie out now dedicated to the great aspects of the Euro culture. Check it out here! :green: --- PS, -notice the link on the bottom of that site, you can win an Xbox and a copy of PG2, courtesy of Dreamworks Pictures, Hewlett Packard and Baskin Robbins. --

kelley
From everything I've heard the PSP's going to have a launch VERY similar to the PS2s. Meaning title drought for about a year after launch.
Beer Monkey
Dude, that film is just wrong. Its not "European" to look at Dawn in her underwear, its just sick. Isn't that the truth. She was 18 when the movie was shot, but she looks about 15. Just watching the commercials I feel like the movie studios are trying to turn me into a pervert. :? rustyjaw
Wow, Sony reminds me of Apple. They make good stuff, but somehow they find a way to screw up the simple stuff (like making enough products, or shipping them ontime).
