rustyjaw
I read about this on Variety.com in AvantGo on my Palm this morning, unfortunately, the Variety.com website only has a small blurb about it. Deal includes a script being penned by game creator Jordan Mechner The AvantGo story says in addition: "Rather than do a straight adaptation beat-for-beat of the videogame, we're taking some of the cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story -- much as "Pirates" did with the theme park ride" (Bruckheimer produced Pirates of the Caribbean)
Whooter
Sounds good to me. Bruckheimer films are a definite guilty pleasure...
Zathras
Sounds intriguing - could go either way, but the heroine has to say "oh look a crack!" at least two or three times
Chris F
Oh. A Bruckheimer produced film. That means lots of low camera angles, and gratuitous slo-mo. Oh wait, maybe that's a Michael Bay film...
JFo
I'll try not to get too excited about this project yet, given the quality of most videogame films and my lack of appreciation for most Jerry Bruckheimer productions. I will note that there are some exceptions though such as Black Hawk Down. So, all is not lost. I see the fact that the game's creator is penning the screenplay as nothing but a good thing, but that still does not guarantee a good movie. I suspect that a lot of that will depend on whom they ask to direct. At any rate, thanks for the heads up!
Mark E
Bruckheimer on and Bay off has potential to be interesting in a guilty pleasure sort of way. Bay is one director whose success I don't understand. He's made approximately one good film in my estimation, The Rock, and that was almost DESPITE his camera style. I blame him for the idiotic MTV quick-cut style, show no action during action sequences filmmaking becoming popular. I'd love to see a well-done Prince of Persia movie just because I am a HUGE fan of good swordfighting in a movie and a PoP production would have to have it in spades . Plus some Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon style wirework for running around the walls. Sounds good to me if it's done right.
