Mark E
Good show, merlot, good show! It's people like you who are going to let me sell my mint copy of Bubble Bobble for the PSOne for about $45 .

I really believe this stuff will be worth a large amount of pennies years from now... I hope
dogbert
You'll have to hold onto the Saturn for a long long time. Far too many of them in circulation. It's the games that were underprinted that are valuable, and generally they're already climbing in price. Bah.
Beer Monkey
I see little of the disc-based stuff worth a ton down the road. Too easy to pirate.
Mark E
Too easy to pirate. Disagree. Well, not about ease of piracy. Thing is though, people who are getting these games are doing it to collect them. I know when I collect things I want them complete and intact. No jewel cases only, gimme at least manuals and hopefully the box too. The point where these games reach the upper echelon of the price range, you aren't looking at the teenage dweeb who wants a copy of something for shits and giggles, you're getting more the people who are interested in preserving the whole aspect of the game. Case in point, the whole Bubble Bobble thing. You'll see jewel case, disc-only copies of this going for under thirty bucks. A mint condition manual/original case copy is going to go for around forty-five, minimum. I use that as an example since I've been watching market trends lately, but I think you'll find a similar trend through the eBay markets.[/code]
iainl
Generally, I don't think there is going to be a massive market for the early generation 3D titles in the future. Rarely do old 3D titles not stand up graphically the way old 2D ones usually do, and emulation of a 3D title can, thanks to a careful sprinkling of resolution, texture correction and smoothing, end up looking rather better than ever. As Brian says, discs are much easier to rip (hey, with Playstation titles you don't even need to rip; just play the game straight off the CD ROM drive) than carts, so even if there is a market for the discs with the original packaging, the hardware just isn't going to be that useful. merlot
I agree with Parmboy. It's not about owning the game, ripped or not, but having it in great condition with original box and instructions. Same with the consoles themselves. It's a collectors market. Sure, right now it's very, very early, but I think the demand for these will increase down the road. We are still early in the video game generation. We where there for the start of it. Think 20+ years from now. With all the abuse and neglet these systems and games go through, mint condition or near mint items will be worth something to somebody. My father collects Lionel trains (HUGE collection). You think way back in the day people thought they'd have the value they do now? They were just toys. Romier S
*hugs copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga and Burning Rangers etc etc...* Now the problem is getting a copy of Radiant Silvergun which I flat out refuse to shell out 150 bucks for. Or for that matter I'd love to get my hands on a PC Engine and Dracula X Rondo of Blood. The problem with that is the lowest Ive seen Dracula X go for is a nice reasonable price (note sarcasm) of 250.00. umm...Negative.
Calvin
(hugs his FREE copy of Burning Rangers) I was thinking of pulling out my Saturn to play Enemy Zero. Another quirky game from Warp - using sound as its hook. Great game though...
merlot
How is Burning Rangers, thinking about paying too much for it on eBay
dogbert
Burning Rangers is a lot of fun. It's got a fair amount of graphical issues as they're really trying to push the effects etc, and it can be a little confusing at times... But it's fun. I wouldn't touch a Japanese one as there's a fair amount of important dialogue in it. I wouldn't pay eBay prices for it though. But that's just me. kelley
Pretty much all the good Saturn US games are pretty high in price on eBay.
dogbert
I disagree, Kelley. I say all the late US games & RPGs go for pretty high money. There's plenty of good US games that are ~ $10-15 or less.
kelley
I'm still hunting down JPN Saturn 2D fighters and the Capcom Greatest Hit series.
merlot
I won a bid on brand new, unopened copies of Street Fighter Alpha & SF Alpha 2 for $19.99. Now if I ever get my friggin Saturn I could play them :x
merlot
Just an update, I returned the Saturn yesterday (see the ebay insanity thread in controller down), and I'm waiting on the arrival of a brand new, unopened Saturn I won on Ebay
Zathras
Ebay can do Crazy things to a person. When I went on a classic gaming spree a few months ago - I ended up winning two different Saturn Lots the same night (figured I would just end up winning one). Well I got a lot of Saturn stuff really quickly that way. Now I just have to track down some more games I actually want to play
merlot
Got my brand new Saturn yesterday Started playing NiGHTS, but I can't save progress as the battery seems dead. The thing was manufactured in '97, so I guess it's safe to say to 6 year old battery is dead. Need to scour the net to find out how to change it... dogbert
Need to scour the net to find out how to change it... Ultra easy. Turn the Saturn around & look at the back. On the left hand side, there's a little slider door thing that'll come off really easy (think PSX serial port cover). Behind it is the battery. Battery slides out, new battery slides in. Put the compartment door back on. Turn Saturn back on. Play games. Save progress.

dogbert
Yup. And to help you even more, the battery you need is a standard lithium CR2032, same one that Dreamcasts use in the VMUs.
merlot
Thanks dogbert! I picked up a battery during my lunch hour. Looks like this is the battery used in most PC's... I thought the number looked familar.
