Jeff W
Link (scroll down a bit) Anyways, it looks like her next movie should kick ass -- she'll be starring as the futuristic assassin Aeon Flux in the live-action movie (remember that amazing animated series?). Vaguely remember the series when it was on MTV, not sure how it would do as a live action movie though. :?

Mark E
I have to say I'm not looking too forward to this movie. Probably because I have baggage, owning the entire Aeon Flux series on VHS from a long, long time ago. I mean, the whole point of Aeon Flux was that it was just a big big head trip that never really explained itself at any time and had bizarro endings to its episodes. I mean, half the episodes end with Aeon dying, how are you going to communicate that sort of thing in a movie? My other problem is that having watched Peter Cheung's short on the Animatrix DVD, I have this sneaking suspicion that he's one of those people who can't actually write a good story but instead pretends to be intelligent by throwing out a lot of shit that doesn't make any sense and then never explaining anything, largely because he himself doesn't know what it means either. Sort of a symbolism for its own sake type of deal.
dogbert
I'm with Pharmboy. Bigtime Aeon Flux fan to the point of taping it off MTV late at night & wearing my copies out as it was just so damn cool, and I can't see it working as a Hollywood-ised film without being extremely unlike the original series. It's just not set up to be a film. On a related tangent, one of my fav Aeon Flux memory is watching "Leisure" late on MTV & it starts without titles, jumping straight into the story. 10 minutes later the credits came up & it goes to break. "What the fuck??". After the break, the titles & MTV shows the beginning of the episode & the middle... For a long time, I thought that was the way it was supposed to be broadcast. I didn't discover MTV had messed up until much much later. Fittingly for Aeon Flux, it still worked as an episode...
blackcalx
While I enjoyed the series, I liked the Liquid Television shorts much more. I'd be interested, though, to see how they do with a movie.

Wait, are you saying that you don't think that the Matriculated story is good? Or are you saying that you enjoyed it because he didn't write it (I think the Wachowski brothers wrote it...at minimum they consulted and approved it)? I think it's brilliant, I love the idea that people use the Matrix to 'recruit' machines. Sure there are some really silly moments and visuals, but overall it worked for me very well. The end was beautiful and creepy. In any event, I'm not sure how well his crazy visual style would work beyond 30 minutes...I sense that it could be fatiguing. kelley
i hope they keep Aeon's outfit 100% like the cartoon. yum. For me i think the best thing about them making this movie is hopefully MTV will give the show and shorts a nice transfer to DVD, as the long time out of print DVDs have a horrible transfer. Mark E
Wait, are you saying that you don't think that the Matriculated story is good? Correct! I don't care for Matriculated at all, which is rather unfortunate since I was stoked upon seeing that Cheung had a hand in it. Until I watched it and it turned out to be Aeon Flux Meets The Matrix, for all intents and purposes. Don't get me wrong, I think the concept is interesting, if perhaps a bit way out there for the Matrix (in my opinion, but it's let down by what I consider to be poor execution. I think that happens in World Record too, to be fair, with an interesting concept bunged up by the execution. Now I'm curious as to whether Cheung did write it or not, I'll have to look that up at some point . Anyway, while I do think the movie is a not bad idea, I will try and at least give it a chance to impress me when it finally does get around to coming out .
