Romier S
So yeah its an old school game and an old school topic but in my journey to install Unreal 2004 (6 discs and 5.5 gig later I was done) the proverbial fancy got tickled and I got in the worst mood to play Planescape Torment. Game threw me off guard since I forgot the game only allows you to install the first disc (I later did the full installation trick). Sudden memory lapse . (that and I am so used to these multi-disc 1200gig installs these days ). Finally loaded the game up and got The Nameless One out of the Morgue area and into the city of Sigil. Man I forgot how damn fabulous this game is. Absolutely love the personality of the characters like Morte and such. The dialogue is as sharp as ever (I got a chuckle out of the "No wonder my back hurts, someone wrote a novel back there" dialogue choice after Morte reads the tatoos on The Nameless Ones back) and I had almost forgetten how open ended the choices you have are even this early in the game. I was also amazed at how well the graphics have held up even today. The environments are all lovingly rendered with loads of detail and the art direction in the game is one of its biggest selling points. the character animations are quite detailed and intricate (love The Nameless One's walk animation). My only complaint is the limited resolution (640X480) that you have to play the game at. Its a stylistic choice though since Planescape is far more zoomed in than any of the other available Infinity Engine games like Baldurs Gate and Icewind games. Even still I wish some intrepid hacker out there would engineer a way to bump things up to 800X600 and most importantly utilize 32bit color. Either way this is minor complaint since the game still looks damn good (especially considering its almost 5 years old) I beat the game a long long time ago and I was so enthralled playing last night I plan to do so again when time alllows. I don't mind devoting small chunks of time here and there and since a majority of it is like reading a ridiculously well written book there should be little problem doing so. More to the point, there are worst ways to spend my time . If anything this whole experience makes me that much more sad to see Black Isle gone from the face of gaming. When the studio was good........god damn was it good.
Robot Monkey
I still intend to play this one day.
Mark E
the art direction in the game is one of its biggest selling points. No argument here. Ahh, Planescape, somebody should do something up on how fabulous an old title like this can be :green:. I'm curious, Romier, as to who you use for your party? Choices are not exactly huge, but I'm interested in hearing what characters you've used before.

I know I kept Morte throughout cause I loved his dialogue and the constant bickering with The Nameless One and party. Fall-From-Grace was useful as hell too. Her healing spells were invaluable. I kept Annah around for her thieving skills and I switched off mages whenever I pleased. Da'kkon was the best of the lot IMHO though Ignus was neat to play around with. I made the main character a pure fighter. Beefed up strength and all around can of whoop ass so I decided to forego adding any other Melee characters. Mostly kept a party of 4-5. Ahh, Planescape, somebody should do something up on how fabulous an old title like this can be I have a feeling one of our Gamecube moderators will have that wish fullfilled when the site goes live. Mark E
Dak'kon has an excellent story arc if you're a mage too, I might add . I was really curious if you'd used Vhailor or Ignus before, to be honest. I typically take Fall-From-Grace, Annah (who knew Sheena Easton had it in her?), Dak'Kon, Morte, and Mordon so I haven't taken the others except for a few stat boosts here and there. I have a feeling one of our Gamecube moderators will have that wish fullfilled when the site goes live. No! Really? I think one of the GameCube moderators felt like being particularly self-aggrandizing this evening too

PoisonJam
I'm a big RPG fan, and I've heard so much about this game that I picked it up about a year ago at a computer show. When I got home, I excited ripped off the plastic wrap and opened it...to discover that the printing on all of the packaging and the discs themselves was in Russian! Happily, the game was in English, but after wandering around for 20 minutes or so I never felt like I knew quite what to do or where to go, and obviously if there were any kind of hints or suggestions in the package I couldn't read them. I think it's time to find that game again, sit down with a walkthrough for the first area or so, and roll through it again. I can't help feeling like I'm missing out on a fantastic RPG by not playing this.
