Robot Monkey
Great Scott! Take the advice of Penny Arcade's Tycho and watch the entire trailer! http://www.apple.co.jp/quicktime/trailers/...hern_large.html There's a web site for the film at http://casshern.com. But the content is also in Japanese (don't let the English navigation fool you). Quit whatever you're doing, it's not important. ... Run over the roof of the car, go home, and open up a browser. Look at this trailer for a movie called Casshern. I have no idea what's going on, I think it's from Japan. It's startling how often those two things go together. -j

Robot Monkey
Here's a little more information. This film is based upon an animated Japanese television program from the Seventies. This is the director's debut. http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/2004/0-9.../main-page.html http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/494/4943....html?fromint=1 -j

Starhawk
Holy f***ing s**t. It's only a matter of time before this gets picked up for US release. I think we all know how well Cassern would do here! I think we all know how well Cassern would do here! Hell, we're still waiting for Hero to get a theatrical release, and that is a beautiful movie with some absolutely incredible fight scenes. I think there is definately potential for something like Casshern to do very well, especially with the increasing popularity of anime and manga, but if it gets delayed to the pooint where alot of people have already imported DVD's of it like happens with most good Japanese and Hong Kong flicks, then interest will probably have passed by. Which really sucks, s this looks alot more interesting than much of the schlock Hollywood tends to put out as summer action flicks.

blackcalx
Re Hero: I seem to remember reading something about the studio that owns the US rights "waiting for a good time" to release it.
Orpheus
Hero was supposed to be getting a theatrical run in the US this spring, Miramax were being idiots about it, but apparently Quentin Tarantino has stepped in recently to make sure this eventually gets a release. I really hope someone does pick up Casshern. It looks too good not to get a decent translation with good voice acting and a US theatrical run. Romier S
:thud: :thud: :thud: ..and for those that didn't catch that... :jawdrop: :jawdrop: :jawdrop: Just a DVD release with subtitles please. I'd love a theatrical release but hopes are not high (thought it should damn well get one!). I'd be all over this in a heart beat!
blackcalx
Sign me up for subtitles as well. I'd much rather read it (which would give me an excuse of watching it more than once to catch it all) than listen to voice overs.
Starhawk
Same here. If they released Casshern with a Dub only option, I would probably never bother to see it.

Obnoxious
speaking of cool looking japanese films, what's the deal about that movie "appleseed" posted on lcvg a while back? Is it coming to North America? Or is it already here, and I'm just real out of it?
Chris F
ANyone interested in Hero, and can't wait, should pick up this: http://www.dvdasian.com/cgi-bin/dvdasian/17655.html I've seen the original, non Directors Cut, and the subtitles were excellent. Great movie. Totally different than what the US trailer makes it look like.
Obnoxious
Wondering, with that movie "Hero," why does the trailer for the U.S. dubbed version say it's by Quentin Tarantino? http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/hero/ Seems more like they just arranged some deal with him to use his name to attract U.S. viewers. IMDB doesn't have "Hero" as a piece directed by him on his credits. It just shows his next film as "Inglorious Bastards," due in 2006. Mark E
Well, he may simply have directed the dubbing of the movie. I don't believe that would be enough to get him in the credits, but I have no idea how that works, so if Dan reads this I know he'll have an answer that is actually knowledge-based . He didn't direct-direct though, I think it's quite fair to assume.
Beer Monkey
Somebody should hire these guys to make a big upcoming comic book movie for the US.
notfromhere
Actually, Tarantino is on there because he saw the movie, loved it, and wanted Miramax to release it without cutting it to bits. Which they said they would, in return for Tarantino lending his name to the marketing campaign. Tarantino: Hero's Hero
