Peter O
This morning I checked my credit card balance and saw a strange charge: $9.95 from a site called M-TechInc.com I had never heard of this site until I saw the charge on my card. Looks like the site sells website templates for $9.95, something I have zero use for. Calling the listed number there leads do a generic answering machine, I left a message and sent them an email. My bank (a credit union) says that since the charge is under $50, I can't dispute the charge or file a fruad claim. The card is a MasterCard. I thought that MC had $0 liability for online transactions? Is there anything I can do? I'll keep trying to get ahold of M-Tech for a direct refund but I'm not holding my breath. Yes, it is only 10 bucks, but I don't want to let an unauthorized charge just slide by.
Bruce B
Sometimes online companies that you order from are an affiliate of another parent company and thats the name that shows up on your statement. Can you think of anything you ordered this month for that price?
Mark E
Weird, but contact MasterCard. I got dinged by that a couple years ago when PayPal was still a more sketchy place to do business and some bastards at PayPal.net got my c/c info. Only charge that ever appeared on it was for porn, and I'm damn well not letting people buy porn if I don't even get to see it. SOOO, I called the bank, they refused to pay the company their money, I got the charge reversed, and no problems whatsoever besides me freaking out. It never happened again either. They may not be able to file the dispute, but they should cover the charge for you.
Carlucci
I find it interesting that the site has a "What is M-TechInc.com billing me for?" link here. I guess you've tried filling out the online form that they have? They must get that a lot, to have a link specifically addressing it. Let us know how it pans out. Carlos. Peter O
Yes, I filled out that form. If someone had stolen my credit card order, I'm sure they would have ordered more than $9.95 worth of merchandise. I am still at a loss then how some unkown site was able to charge me. The only thing I can think of is there was a "piggyback" charge when I performed a transaction somewhere else. I'll give M-Tech a few days to call or email me. If I don't hear anything, I'll call the bank again and try to contest the charge (and tell them about that MasterCard site).
Mark E
I'm sure they would have ordered more than $9.95 worth of merchandise. Eh, you never know. When I got snagged it was for $30 or so and it never happened again and I can guarantee you right now that I never spent any money on pornography or gave my credit card out anyplace else . Chatakinns
My own Credit Card company zapped me for a $50 charge saying I had authorized one of their " business partners " to charge some auto insurance to their plan. Believe me, I nipped that right in the bud. They tried to tell me it would take up to 30 days to remove the charge and free up that $50 again and in the mean time, that money was getting charged interest. I let them know in no uncertain terms that was NOT ACCEPTABLE and that I wanted a note put on my account that no " business partner " of theirs was to ever charge anything to my account EVER, and as they put the charge on the card, they could damn well remove it within 24 hours or I was going to cancel my account and call the States Attorneys office in my area and the Better Business Bureau. It took them exactly 2 hours to get the charge off there and it never happened again for the 2 years I had the card. I have made it a point to make a weekly check of my cards web sites and do a lookie-loo at what activity has been going on. Helps me keep track of it, and helps me keep them honest. :tu: Checking the website was how I saw the $50 charge so fast.
