Colin McRae possiblities?

Recommended Posts

I am really enjoying the Midway Arcade Treasures high score battles we have going on, and I was thinking is there a decent way we could do this for Colin McRae 04? I don't know how, I am just thinking out loud...I guess it is a bit trickier since the scoreboards are strictly for "best time" which does not take car into account. I haven't unlocked jack-shit on my copy yet since I haven't had time to play any championships, so I don't have any b-stock cars at all.

Any ideas on how we could do this (and is there any interest)?

Yeah, it's tough because some of us will have Group B cars and some won't (and I'm not convinced that they are faster on all courses anyway). I've only set times with a Group B on about 3 stages, but I doubt I'd ever be able to get competitive times in a standard 4WD.

And the scoreboards only post your best time, as you said, without regard to the car.

I'm certainly interested, but I'm not sure there's any way to keep a level playing field.

One thing is for certain, this kind of competition will be perfectly suited to RalliSport Challenge 2, which will have scoreboards for each car and XSN support...I just hope the game itself is as fun as CMR4.

Yeah. Hm. I guess we could just use the honor system, I mean I obviously trust all the guys on this board. We could just randomly pick a stage and a specific 2WD or 4WD car that is one of the defaults. But maybe it would just be too much to maintain, I dunno.

Hey, the "on your honor" system worked for the Mario Golf tourney, so why not CMR?

I'm game if others are. I need to get back into this anyway, I've been slacking off in the last week.

I would love to try a competition racing the base cars and (maybe) the same car settings. I can't seem to do very well in the part-testing stages, so my cars don't even have upgrades.

I would think we could let everybody customize the car settings how they want, that would just be personal preference of how you like the car to feel. As for upgrades, we would probably just have to ban those as well to ensure a level playing field.

If we do races in Stages mode the cars should have the same settings.

Ah, that's right. Well, that would eliminate that problem. I guess we could just start a sticky like we have for the Midway Arcade Treasures contest and maintain our own "scoreboard" in the first post. It will be a bit more overhead than the MAT one though, oh well.

Heh, I knew that was going to happen, I edited the post you quoted, and changed it into my proposal for a custom rally.

I have an idea, what if we created a custom rally, each of us chose a stage (I think the limit is 6) and then we just tally the total time over all 6 stages?

Ohhhh...you mean kind of like we pick one stage a week and have a cumulative running time? Instead of having a points system? That would be cool.

Yeah, if you go into the Rally section, there's a choice for Custom rally where you pick stages to run in succession (there are also some 'themed' rallies like "Asphalt Assault" or something where all the stages are on pavement), think there are two slots for custom rallies, and I believe that each is 6 stages, so we could all chose a stage, and them combine them together into a single rally, or two consecutive rallies of 6 stages each.

That's cool, I didn't know about that feature. That would seem pretty idea for our situation, hm.
