Chris F
http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/fun.games/08/...reut/index.html Rather vague though. Any speculation?

Mark E
It's going to be a new desktop with goggles that lets you play games in TRUE 3-D. It'll be absolutely amazing and its library will be composed of up to five titles . Eyestrain not included. Nintendo is gonna have to really turn out the big guns in the next little bit to pick up its pace, though I really like the Club Nintendo idea they're pushing. If they can jump the next gen systems to release that'll be an important step. Hopefully this announcement has something to do with that . This will be the first full system Iwata has been running the company for and he's so far seemed to be pretty cognisant of Nintendo's shortcomings so I'm really hoping the company busts out with an amazing showing. Camp
Stay tuned for Megaton II. Nintendo's announcements of announcements are usually pretty bad. If they could box 1/2 the hype and drama of the announcement into an actual product they'd really have something. Iwata told the news conference Nintendo plans to strengthen its marketing by introducing a points system similar to frequent flier schemes for air travellers, in which consumers would accumulate points by buying its software. As if they actually release enough games per year to allow you to accumulate points. I could buy all 6 Gamecube games they released and have enough points for what....a stuffed Pikachu? EnemaEms
I love Nintendo games, but they are really going to have to impress me before I invest in another Big 'N' console. There are just not enough games to justify the cost anymore. -Dean-
Mark E
There are just not enough games to justify the cost anymore. Wow, I don't see how that's the case. The 'N' has some work to do, but they've been putting out some amazing product on this console. I don't think it should be a primary system, but for the price point they're offering at lately it's hard not to justify its secondary use for the first and second party software. I mean, I could list, but I have nearly thirteen titles in my library and 11 are exclusive (I'll dq Skies of Arcadia, though it rocks ) and only Luigi's Mansion is a really mediocre title. It's not a huge swell, but I mean, c'mon, the PS2 library is heavily beefed by scads of subpar crap itself. Next gen will be better for me since I'll have graduated and will have actual income . There'll be a next-gen Nintendo and a next-gen X-Box in my place for sure.

iainl
If its yet another Gameboy, I'll be annoyed. Annoyed but buying it anyway, though.
EnemaEms
Mario Sunshine was the 1st Mario game I did not finish. I just did not get into it after about 25 shines. Metroid Prime was very good and Windwaker Was a great experience. But those two series don't justify a console for me anymore. Now I'll agree that the PS2 has some major craptacular titles. But they have enough exclusives to justify me keeping it. As for the X-box, you'll have to pry that from my cold dead hands, same with my N64. -Dean-
Chatakinns
We have a total of 15 Cube games and with the exception of one ... I don't regret any of them. I may not play them again right away, but I will play them again sometime. And I still play most all the Nintendo systems I own. ( Well, I don't play the GB much since we have the GBASP now...but you know what I mean ) I will not hesitate to purchase Nintendo consoles in the future. ( If there any ) Yeah, they take forever to bring out games, but when they do, they are solid, fun to play games. Besides, I can only play so many games at one time. Right now we have mostly played X-Box games, and the PS2 and Cube sit and patiently wait for us to take them out and play with them again while the X-Box waits it's turn. ( I don't see it waiting long though  ) I enjoy things about all 3 consoles. They all have their good points and they all have their bad. Some more than others, but what I appreciate is that it seems as though the companies seem to be listening to what the gaming consumers want more and more. adamsappel
To me, the GameCube is so relatively inexpensive that there's no reason not to own one. Considering you can soon buy the GC new for $99 (which will drive used prices down by half), why not have the option to play the first-party and exclusive titles? Surely there's something on this list worth at least renting: Zelda: Wind Waker Metroid Prime Pikmin Eternal Darkness Animal Crossing Super Mario Sunshine Wario World Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2 Super Smash Brothers Melee Mario Golf Mario Tennis Killer 7 Metal Gear Solid:The Twin Snakes Rogue Squadron series F-Zero GX Mario Kart:Double Dash Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Metroid Prime 2 Pikmin 2 Animal Crossing 2 Viewtiful Joe 1080 Snowboarding Ikaruga And the Xbox has plenty of stinkers, too. Mark E
Adam, your list is spot on, though I feel Eternal Darkness should have been listed twice . Jury's out on Mario Kart though, I'm wondering if the speed issues they mentioned in IGN are being resolved and if not just how much of a detriment (if any) they really are. And don't start me on what they're doing wrong with Crystal Chronicles .
blackcalx
Perhaps it is due to the fact that I am very picky with my game purchases, but of all the games I have purchased for my Cube I don't regret a single one. As adamsappel pointed out there are some great games in the horizon as well. I've owned every Nintendo console that came out, and not because of fanboyism. I've just come to expect quality out of Nintendo, and I'll keep buying their products until they show me otherwise.

Camp
I don't think anyone is doubting the quality of Nintendo's software nor their right to have a console on the market. They make great, great stuff -that's a fact which simply cannot be argued. I do, however, think it very fair to doubt their ability to climb out of the hole the Gamecube has found itself in. We all know their software, while great, isn't enough to do it. It's time for something different. Nintendo needs to stop pretending like they're a company who makes waves in this industry and deliver on their dramatic press conferences. They need to do something radical. Mark E
Again, maybe it's just my imagination and no I don't have numbers to back this up, but it seems to me that the GameCube was in fact a step up over the N64 debacle. The N64 never really seemed to me to have its shit together, and while the Cube is waffling I do think it is a better system in any number of ways. I suppose it's a matter of perception and to be fair I never spent as much time with the N64, but it never really impressed me. I'm the odd duck anyway, I can count on one hand the number of PS2 exclusives that I liked and the only one that made me say 'coooooool' is available on PC. Graeme
I'm the same way with the N64, it's the only system I own that I regret buying somewhat. I got the system on launch day with Mario and Pilotwings, and didn't buy another game for years (I finally got Zelda a year after it's release), I barely rented any for it and nothing really apealed to me. So for me, I find it odd that the same person can complain that there aren't enough games for the Gamecube, but state that we'd have to pry the N64 from his cold dead hands. I think it safe to say the N64 was a very successful system and, from a business perspective, is not a fair comparison to the Gamecube. It had some great, great games too. (I've now said "great, great" twice in the same thread) It was, however, the begining of the end in terms of Nintendo's ability to throw weight around with third party developers. By the time Gamecube righted the licensing wrongs of the N64 it was really too late...Sony's lead was insurmountable.
EnemaEms
The cube is a nice system but the N64 had way better games. Nintendo just doesn't have the 3rd party support to warrant a purchase from me. If they can show that they can wrap up more than a tired series as an exclusive, I'll bite, but until then.... Jus t to name a few great N64 games.... Mario 64 Goldeneye Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask WWF No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000 WCW vs. NWO games Banjo Kazooie and Tooie Conker Mario Kart Perfect Dark Turok -Dean-

Nintendo needs to stop pretending like they're a company who makes waves in this industry and deliver on their dramatic press conferences. They need to do something radical. My thoughts exactly. Keeping the status quo isn't gonna cut the mustard anymore. Whatever the big "N" has up their sleeve, it had better be mid-blowing. Personally, I'll still get it - I can't just see them rolling over & taking a powder. But I hope they are listening to what gamers want - & give them just that.
