JTello
-This poll is the result of a small debate Keith (kfredericks) and I had. If either Halo 2 or Mech Assault were to have a delay announcment before thier respective launches which game do you feel is more likely to be the one delayed? -Keith and I will remain quiet our choices for a little bit, so as not to influence the results. -In advance,... Thanks for the help,... or, too bad you picked the wrong side! (Sorry about forgetting the poll the first time! Doh! )

Bruce B
Halo 2. Because they know the longer they delay it the bigger the hype machine will be. The delay will NOT hurt sales and they know it.
foogledricks
Put your money where your mouth is Joel. I bet you a copy of the game that gets released this year! If both are delayed to 2005, or both are released in 2004, then we break even. But if one is delayed, and the other isn't, the victor gets a copy of their winning horse. Put your transformers down and step up to the plate optimus.

Camp
Why these two games? For Halo 2 to be delayed it would have to slip into "winter" or beyond -the announced release period being "Fall 2004" gives it a whole calandar season to play with. Has there been a delay in MechAssault 2 development? I just haven't been up to date on that one. Now if you say Fable versus Duke Nukem Forever or Prey you've got a poll!
JTello
Why these two games? We could easily have been discussing other delays and games as you mentioned, but specifically we were discussing these games and that is why I created this poll. BTW, If we were debating Duke or Prey coming out this year we'd both be wrong! :green:
scobeto
I've been starting to wonder if there even is a Halo2...

Winter starts on December 21st this year. So forget about Winter versus Fall. Our debate was strictly which game was most likely to come out this year. adamsappel
How would you classify "Holiday 2004" as a release date I've read bandied about for Halo 2? Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas?
JoeyN
Mech 2 is the game least chance of getting delayed out of the two as from reading a few articles, they are well into the game already. Halo 2 well i dont think they would delay it again. My predition. Both games in 2004 capt
Guest Bryan
I consider Holiday 2004 to be post-Thanksgiving Day. There is no way to win this bet that I can see. The Halo II trick is to say "it never had a release date set, so it isn't delayed. It will be ready when it is ready." I consider Halo II to be delayed each time its expected release is pushed back by a season or more. I have also heard the argument that game stores only guess at these dates. I know that. They do this for a living, so they must have some inside information that lets them make these predictions. Thank you for letting me share my opinion. JTello
Well, if I let this thread stand still any longer it's libel to grow mold & wither away and die,.. So without further delayed, here are the results and the corresponding positions Keith and I took, Which game is more likely to be delayed, Halo 2 [ 10 Votes ] [83.33%] Clearly the winner and always cooler,... drum roll please,.......Joel! MechAssault 2 [ 2 Votes ] [16.67%] Coming in a distant second in the poll of public opinion,... Low farty sounding tuba please ,... Keith! Total Votes: 12 -Me and my Halo posse may be wrong, but a public victory is satisfying at this point. :green: -Oh, and despite the scientifical and well researched evidence Keith is libel to post in defense of his position, I'd like to admit that I have no real defense myself! Yeah, I pretty much pulled this position outta my arse. Sure I read the same articles and releases as everyone else, but really, what the hell do I know! I just hope I get a free game outta this! :green: Although the chance to bicker with Keith in a public forum and have more people take my stance is pretty nice. :tu:
foogledricks
Me and my Halo posse may be wrong, but a public victory is satisfying at this point. Get your copy of Halo 2 ready, you might as well preorder now. I am used to lots of people disagreeing with me, and then reality kicking them in the ass. News flash: the Earth is not flat! And Halo 2 is coming out this year. Despite rumors, speculation, and wishful thinking that have falsely defined Halo 2's release date over the last year, there has been only one statement by Bungie on the matter. They maintained "When it's done" all the way until January 30th, where they officially announced that the game would come out by December 21st of this year (a.k.a Fall). Bungie has never missed a target date, so there is absolutely no reason to think they'll miss this one. MechAssault on the other hand is more of a question mark. And that is why, if anyone is getting a free game, it is me. You should all buy me a copy of Halo 2, to facilitate LAN parties that you are all invited to attend. But I will settle for a copy from transformer head.
dogbert
If both are delayed to 2005 So the argument is about which comes out this year, or which gets a delay? A delay doesn't automatically mean 2005 release. December 21st of this year (a.k.a Fall). Rubbish. That may be the "official" date that Winter begins, but it's not in the industry or in retail. Fall is upto Thanksgiving. After Thanksgiving, hell even the couple of weeks before it, are Holiday. From the official PR for MechAssault2: February 5, 2004?Today, Microsoft Game Studios announced that MechAssault 2 is currently in development and is scheduled to arrive on retail shelves in time for the 2004 holiday season Pretty damn general. From the official site for Halo 2 Fall 2004 Again, pretty damn general, but that means they're aiming for before Thanksgiving.
foogledricks
So the argument is about which comes out this year, or which gets a delay? A delay doesn't automatically mean 2005 release. The use of the word "delay" is distracting everyone. The bet is more specifically defined as : "If only one of these games comes out this year, which one will it be." I say Halo, Joel says MechAssault. And everyone seems to agree with Joel. But everyone is wrong. Remember though, if they both end up coming out in 2004, or both fall to 2005, no game will exchange hands. Rubbish. That may be the "official" date that Winter begins, but it's not in the industry or in retail. I don't really understand what your point is. Are you saying that seasons are on a different timeline for videogame releases? Like, Winter starts in October for videogames? What about movies? Perhaps you're talking about Australia? Where are you from?
dogbert
The use of the word "delay" is distracting everyone. No, it's because you never made it clear what you meant & what the bet exactly involved - there's a hell of a big difference between "delay" & "delay till next year" in the gaming world, and you know it. I think if you'd made that clear right at the beginning of the thread, more people would agree with you. Hell, I agree with you - Halo 2 will be out this year and if either was to slip, it'll be MechAssault 2. As for your attempt at splitting hairs on the definition of fall, winter & holiday with relevance to retail - Fall is September/October, Holiday is Thanksgiving/December, and Winter generally falls any time the publisher decides (I've seen Winter 05 mean Jan/Feb 05, not December 05...) as it's a more loose descriptor. foogledricks
I think if you'd made that clear right at the beginning of the thread, more people would agree with you. Well, I firmly blame that on Joel, as the starter of this thread. I tried to clarify the rules of our bet with my very first quote, below: I bet you a copy of the game that gets released this year! If both are delayed to 2005, or both are released in 2004, then we break even. But if one is delayed, and the other isn't, the victor gets a copy of their winning horse. The first two sentences pretty much sum it up. But my third sentence probably continued the confusion. Sorry.

foogledricks
I'll take the balme, and and my free game thnx Keith! I also blame you for global warming, but that is another discussion. Don't even get me started on how you got Bush elected. Looks like people voted your way because they were confused. Ha ha. I knew no reasonable person would disagree with me. That just leaves you.
