adamsappel
I enjoy rally racing more than street or track racing, and was hoping for some advice on a rally title for the GC. I have Pro Rally 2002, but I hate the fact that I have to unlock all the multiplayer modes and that my car seems to weigh about four pounds and will fly into the air if I hit a pebble. Of these titles, which is best: Pro Rally 2002, Dakar 2, V-Rally 3, or Rally Championship? afaik, Colin McRae 3 isn't coming to GC, right? Is there a game coming out soon worth waiting for? rustyjaw
Hey Allen, I've only tried two of the ones you ask about, Pro Rally and V-Rally 3 and IMO V-Rally 3 is the better one. BUT, I had serious problems with VR3 mostly due to the handling (of the 2.0 liter cars) which I never got he hang of. There seemed to be a severe non-linearity to the steering (I played it with a Dual Shock PS2 controller), you'd be adjusting your way through a corner and suddenly the front end of the car would hook inward, which would lead to a festival of overcorrection. The weird thing is that the handling of the 1.6 liter cars was beautiful and predictable. I started with the 1.6s and was loving the game, the damage modelling is great, the graphics go from so-so to very nice, depending mostly on the location. If you stick to 1.6L cars, it's among the better rally games...unfortunately your opponents' times are fairly easy to beat in the 1.6L class, so while the driving is fun, it's not very difficult to win every season, if not every race. It's too bad about CMR3 (and then 4) not being GC games, because it really spoils you for everything else (although I'm still waiting for WRC2!!). adamsappel
I finally started playing Pro Rally 2002, and it's turned out to be a pretty good racing game. Has a few problems, but they're pretty typical of the genre (cars are light as a feather and turn on a central pivot point). I just love this genre of racing games. I wish you could actually see rally racing somewhere on tv. Ed, I followed your advice elsewhere and ordered WRC, and also just bought Rally Fusion. When Rallisport Challenge 2 ships, we'll have to run a few Live races. LCVG tournament, perhaps?

I think you'll like WRC, it's a very fun game, arcade-leaning, but the handling is nicely predictable, which is key to making a rally game fun to play, IMO.
