JFo
If the genre floats your boat, I'd say look into the big three platformer franchises on the PS2: Jak, Ratchet and Clank, and Sly Cooper. It's because of these games that I do believe that the PS2 is the current champion of the platformer. If you want something a little old school, I'd say check out R-Type Final and Contra: Shattered Soldier. Both of these are excellent additions to their respective series and should provide plenty of hours of fun.
EnemaEms
Fatal Frame 2 is a must have. Since I know you are a big WWE fan, you must buy Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain. The best wrestling game to date (Romier thinks it is the 2nd best ). Manhunt is worth a rent (this will be on the X-box soon). I'll 2nd the Ratchet and Jak games. Silent Hill 3 is another game that can be had cheap. -Dean-
JoeyN
I still have the first Fatal Frame unplayed on my self. Here comes the pain is a good choice as i forgot about it. I did play it against romier and I agree that it is the 2nd best wrestling game of all time :-) No Mercy still holds the title of best capt
Josh
If you like Japanese RPGs, definitely check out FFX, Xenosaga, and Suikoden III. Dark Cloud II is also a great game, as is Kingdom Hearts. Most importantly, ICO. Play ICO. Now. If you don't already have it, and can find it, Rez. Shadow Of Destiny is a really cool adventure game that few have played. For fighting games, the Tekkens are good, and VF4 (the newer version, can't remember the name) is a steal at $19.
iainl
Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution is the fighting game you're after - its the only 3D fighter in town that can stand up to Soul Calibur II. You know you need a cheap copy of Gran Tourismo 3, just because there is so much game there. As far as shmups go, Psyvariar is the Daddy (unless you've got a DC and have imported Psyvariar 2 already). Quality 'buzz' system on it. Finally for now, Get Your Bloomin' Rez Already. It should be mandatory, or something.
Chris
Finally for now, Get Your Bloomin' Rez Already. It should be mandatory, or something. Damn straight. Also Silent Hill 1-3 and the Ratchet & Clank games.
General Zot
Mark of Kri Considering it goes for $10 and was maybe the best overlooked game ever on PS2, picking this up is a no-brainer. Think Metal Arms or Sphinx and that's the kind of game Mark of Kri was. Or if you prefer, it's like Disney meets Conan the Barbarian - cutish cartoon characters just getting medieval on each other. Onimusha 2 is a good one too for ~$10. If you liked Ninja Gaiden or Onimush 1, this one is in a sinilar vein (although waaayyy slower than NG, but what game isn't?) kittycatgirl2k
How about Rygar? I had lots of fun with this one, a blast from the past in the future. Some of the graphics were just gorgeous for a PS2 game. Great stuff. Culdcept, card game meets monopoly. I'm pretty good at guessing "collector's video games" and I think this one will end up being rare as hell in a few years. Of course its a cool game too... Guitaroo-Man, crazy button mashing fun. Also Mad Maestro is great, highly underrated rhythm button masher. And Karaoke Revolution, if you think you can sing... if not its still great for parties. People that won't touch any other video game will dabble with this one. Primal, Devil May Cry, Maximo, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, Zone of Enders: 2nd Runner, Chaos Legion, Disagea, Space Channel 5. I also second the recommendations for Mark of Kri (let the blood spew!), Ico, and Ratchet and Clank. If you decide between Jak I or Ratchet I, I would definitely go Ratchet first. The original Jak and Daxter game was an OK collect em all platformer but lacks the humor and 'bad assed-ness" of the Ratchet game. And Clank is sooo much cooler than the stupid weasle thing. He's bloody annoying in Jak I. Haven't played Jak II yet to see if they improved his character any. Oh yeah and Sega Bass Fishing. I sooooo want this... but have not seen a copy of it in ages upon ages. *sigh*. Played a friend's awhile back and it was an absolute blast. Just need a fishing controller. The PS2 is a great little system even if the graphics are asstacular, there's so many cool "Exclusive" games for it.
AnthonyVolpe
All time favorite PS2 games: Final Fantasy X (favorite RPG of all time) Final Fantasy X-2 (looks a bit dated but the fighting system is just as addictive as FFX - oh, and I actually LIKE the Charlie's Angels motif) WWE Smackdown 6: Here Comes the Pain (best wrestling game in existence even in spite of some of the worst videogame music in history) Ico Silent Hill 3 (nothing like playing a 17-year-old mallrat with a katana slicing up demons) Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly (scary as hell) Castlevania: Lament of Innocence (I never thought this would work as a 3d game, but holy CRAP is this good!!!!) Disgaea (funny as hell - only problem is that this RPG is too friggin' deep - you can actually enter your weapons and level them up) Ratchet and Clank (both) Tekken Tag Tournament (still rocks, still love it) R-Type Final SSX 3 (don't bother with the XBox and Gamecube versions) Xenosaga Episode I - Der Wille Zur Macht (as long as you don't mind a huge story and long cut scenes) Also keep an eye out on Onimusha 3 when it comes out... the handful of reviews so far say it's awesome

First of all, hell yeah Clank is cooler! I'm sorry, but a wise cracking squirrel cannot compete with a humble little robot with a jet-pack upgrade. Oh, and I'll save you the trouble of wondering. Good ol' Daxter changes very little in Jak II. Jak himself undergoes quite a transformation, but Dax is the same guy he was in the first game (and it looks like he's the same way in the upcoming Jak 3. Oddly enough though, I think he was a good deal funnier the second time out. I think part of it had to do with the fact that Jak II was so much darker, and his one-liners were such a sharp contrast to everything else. kittycatgirl2k
Glad someone agrees with me about the "weasle/squirrel" monstosty of the Jak games. The game was good but that little critter just pissed me off, and I generally like cute things. None of the Spyro characters were annoying even if they were cheesy. Can't wait til Jak 2 and Ratchet 2 hit the Greatest Hits price... I'll definitely snag them then...! SSX 3 (don't bother with the XBox and Gamecube versions) ERRR why the heck not?? I've played all three and the XBox one is far superior. The graphics are so much better and smoother and its WIDESCREEN. Oh yes, widescreen. Yum...yum... was soooooo addicted to this! Yes I own the XBox one and would recommend anyone get it for the 'Box if they have that system. Same thing for Soul Caliber 2. It looks like total ass on the poor Playstation 2. R-Type Final was sweeet... Wild Arms 3 was good too... Wild West fun = good times. I also dig Shinobi. Its no Ninja Gaiden, but its fun to play around with despite the pisspoor graphics. rustyjaw
I haven't played SSX3 on the Xbox, or GC, but it's been widely reported that the controls are better on the PS2 verison, because the trick system was designed around the DualShock. I could be wrong, but I thought the PS2 version had a widescreen option...can't remember for sure.
