Metroid Movie...

I really don't think he's done good work behind the camera since his films with Chow Yun Fat. That's just my personal opinion though.

My suggestions are...

Natasha Henstridge, she just needs longer hair... she's already tall enough.

Angelina Jolie, she's already played one Video Game icon.

Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, kind of a nice play off of X-Men.

Ok, those are my choices. Hmm.... hopefully they finish the movie at 100%, so that we can see them without the outfits.

Natasha Henstridge

Ugh. No, no, a thousand times no. Despite the fact that Natasha Hendstridge is in fact from my hometown (weird but true), I still don't think she's all that good. Maybe I'm wrong though, I did only see her in those vile Species movies ;).

My pick? Charlize Theron. Something along the lines of the look she had in the Italian Job, but with longer hair.

Jennifer Garner could probably do it too.

Strange casting picks anybody? How about the Rock in drag? :green:

I loved John Woo's Hong Kong movies to death, but his Hollywood stuff has just been too . . .Hollywood. His doing Metroid is the final straw for me being a fan of his. And why would you go for some Big Name actress when she would be hidden within the outfit most of the time anyway? And if the movie spends more time of her without the outfit, it really wouldn't be Metroid, now would it?

Unless the movie delves into history and flashbacks, which I could see happening. Otherwise it would be all action, all the time. I admit I'm not familiar with John Woo's work (without looking it up I can't tell you a single thing he's been involved in), so I'll adopt a wait-and-see attitude :)

I suspect that this is what will happen. There is no way that a studio is going to allow anyone - even John Woo - to make a movie and conceal the lead role in a Power Suit through most of it. There's certainly no way that a big time actress is going to allow herself to be covered up like that either. I'd be surprised to see that suit during one-third of the film if even that.

Call me crazy, but I just don't think that the Metroid series is one that lends itself well to film. The games are great, but you spend the entire time alone on a barren planet. There's no dialog and no real charcter development of which to speak. Does that sound like the formula for an interesting movie? It doesn't to me. I will also go out on a limb and predict a stinky box office bomb.

By the way, the article just says that Woo "optioned" the Metroid name. It does not say specificially if he will direct. I suppose it's assumed that he will, but I just wanted to make sure. Also, keep in mind that this project has not been greenlit by a studio yet, so there's a chance it may not even get made.

With John Woo at the helm, I definitely predict a stinker and another video game box office bomb.

That's if it gets made at all. Lots of books, plays, scripts, games & comics get optioned without actually coming close to full production let alone release.

Maria Bello all the way out of those choices for me. She looks like she could pull off the attitude as well as being gorgeous while doing it. Not too mention she is just low key enough to not be distracting which is important for me. If not I could see Rebecca Romijn-Stamos. She did an excellent job with Mystique in both X-men films and she blew me away in Femme Fatale.
