dogbert
Had a nice long play of the OXM demo of this yesterday. I really hope they chose a poor/average level for the demo, because it was incredibly mundane up until the boss fight. Graphics are okayyyy, with some nice effects. The constantly spawning in enemies were bland. The zipping about & double jumps got dull very quickly. The mass destruction of the buildings with the boss fight really was the only stand-out fun part, to me. Hmmmm... Expected a little more out of this... kelley
thats disappointing to hear. I was looking forward to this game. Guess I'll give it a rent before I buy, either that or wait on it to hit $10 like most Sega games seem to be doing lately. Oh and how were the controls? dogbert
Controls were okay, but the camera was completely manual. You're consistently fighting enemies in 3D space with no way of tracking them as the camera is fully under your control. Not the best. I can see how an automated system would be hard to get right, given the game design, but I'd have liked to see them try... I'd like to play the full game, but I can't see me paying $50 for it. kelley
Have you played GunValkryie? If so how would you compare it to that game as they both seem to be very similar.

I hope you're right, Brian, as I was really looking forward to this game as well. I'm gonna try to get a copy of the new OXM to try it for myself. dogbert
The combat's fun enough - lots of slashing, lots of multihits - but it never "sparked" interest. No idea on GV - didn't play it enough to get a good feel for it. Wanted to pick it up cheap, but nowhere around here has it at the right price. Romier S
Hmm looking forward to hearing more. Was looking forward to this one. If anything the Panzer Dragoon Orta demo taught us is how bad of an example these kinds of demo's can be of final gameplay. Though this is kind of a different story considering the Japanese version of the game has been available for quite some time. Good example to take into consideration. Food for thought and a bit disappointing as I was looking forward to this one. Still plan on giving it a shot. Thanks for the impressions Brian. Dan B.
I agree with your impressions, Brian...although I'm still getting a handle on doing combos to stay airborn (like Gunvalkyrie). The thing about the demo however is that you don't need to stay airborne! (which helped to make Gunvalkyrie interesting) It also feels like it could really use a reverse button. It's kinda slow to turn around when an enemy is behind you. What Romier says about the Panzer demo is certainly true though. I know I complained about how easy the level was...especially the boss. Boy did they fix that!
General Zot
The Otogi demo was okay, I do hope it offers more in the final version though. There seems to be a lot of gear slection that could take place before the mission, that could be a big part of the game that just isn't a big part of the demo. I do agree though that when you lock onto an enemy, the camera should always keep you and them in sight. Since Zelda has been doing this well since Ocarina of Time for the N64, I don't see any excuse for it not being present here.

According to a new eurogamer.net article, there's a lot of weapons etc to unlock that do make a difference. It's a very positive report on an almost complete build (and well it should be, it's been out in Japan for ages).
Graeme
I didn't have much trouble with the camera. Once you were locked on it was pretty easy to find the guy without touching the right thumbstick. The level was fairly bland though. There was some cool effects, and taking down entire house with a single swipe of the sword was fun, but nothing that would keep me interested. Very much a Sega game though. Robot Monkey
I scanned the review over at Gamespot and it's definitely piqued my interest. Could I get Otogi (that's ka-ra-oh-kay) impressions from someone picking it up? -j
