GT4 Toyota playable demo

Right now if you sign up for a brochure on the toyota.com site for the prius they'll send you a playable demo of GT4. It has two cars from what I've heard and two tracks. The cars are the prius and a concept car and the tracks are fuji and grand canyon. You're limited to 2:00 of play time per race but still would be a nice semi-preview.

I signed up for one just so I could test my new driving force pro. I want to try out he 900 degree mode.

Thanks for the tip! Although, knowing the way these things usually work, it'll probably be two months before we see anything. :P

Kain: I don't think you'll get two of them - I requested brochures for the Prius and MR2 and there were two "Gran Tourismo [sic] 4" DVDs listed, but the second one said "Suppressed duplicate" or something like that.

Cool - I figure there are a limited number and I don't want to hog them ;)

Of course, even if I do get two, I'm sure someone around here will be glad to take it off my hands. :D

Bah. Everything's coming up "Out of Stock" for me....

Joel, PM me your address and I'll send you my extra. As for how it plays, it seems just like GT3. You have two cars to drive, a Prius and a concept car. The Prius is about as much fun to drive in a game as it probably is in real life. I can't drive 55! No, really, I can't. The concept car is hard to control. The music is the same. Only three views: bumper and close & far chase. The HUD is nice, looks like you'll have to really pay attention to engine diagnostics. The two tracks are a racing track and the Grand Canyon (the Prius is only available on the racetrack). Spectators are still cardboard cutouts, though now they'll lean into/out of your way. I don't know, I think the gameplay of other recent driving games has far surpassed this title. The undamageable cars, not to mention being stopped by mesh barriers and bushes (even open spots on the GC track are hemmed by invisible walls), really stop me from being immersed in the game. Speeds seemed slow and unconnected to the speedometer, the cars were harder to drive. Maybe I just prefer an arcadey racer, but I'll be passing on this one.

I really wouldn't use this demo as a basis for your final decision on whether to get the game or not. At least give it a rent when it comes out. The game is supposed to have a more realistic handling physics engine. So the cars will be harder to control. Hopefully mine will arrive today so I can actually throw my 2 cents in of how it is with the wheel.

Well after 30 mins or so its about what I expected. Its not much to mess with and the 2 minute limit sucks ass. But its really quite good with the wheel. It controls really well with the 900 degree movement. I'm really looking forward to this coming out. Just so I can use the other cars.

What a ripoff. Found this in my inbox this morning:

Thank you for your recent request for a brochure with a Gran Turismo GT4 demo disc. Your interest in our vehicles is important to us, so we wish to give you a status update on your order.

Regrettably, we will not be able to fulfill your request. The popularity of the GT4 promotion surpassed our expectations, resulting in a demand for the demo discs that exceeded our supply.
