dumas8199
Well guys everyone I know we all have our opinion on what ELO stands for. Well ELO is a chess scoring system tha they use to to score Rainbow Six. It's some old guys name...but what is the formula for R63...friendly discussion here guys...I'll check back frequently
Camp
Hi. I'm a bit confused. What's this about and why is Electric Light Orchestry involved?
Cyberwoo
Sorry Dumas. Don't have any answers for ya. I always thought the ELO system in RS3 was lame. It never made much sense to me. Hopefully someone in here can give a good explaination as to what it stands for and its purpose in RS3. BTW welcome to the board. :tu:
Chatakinns
"Many chess players internationally assume that the letters ELO, as in ELO ratings, are some sort of acronym, like FIDE. They are actually the name of one of the most influential American chess players. Arpad Elo's achievements in the field of scientifically based chess player rankings have placed the world chess community in his debt. Accurate ratings eliminate the need for subjective assessments in invitations for various chess event, and they make it possible to have fair, rapid and predictable pairings in Swiss System tournaments, which have greatly increased the attractiveness of chess competition for many." http://www.chesslinks.org/hof/elo.html The Rainbow Six 3 one is the same system used in chess rankings, slightly modified. A longer version of the explanation can be found here. Apparently, if you play against people with a higher ranking than you, and you score kills on them, your ELO rank will go up. If you are killed by people with a lower rank ELO than yours, your score will go down. At least that's what I think it means in relation to dumas' question. No one seems quite sure exactly how it works though in R63.

Robot Monkey
I'm in the same boat as you, Dumas. I know what the system is from and how it works in general, but I don't know how it's specifically applied in RS3. I read something about it once in Ubi's forums, maybe I can do a search there and see if there's more info. -j
Carlucci
While this isn't the answer you are looking for, I think the ELO ratings have been pretty much abandoned as useless by the hardcore RS3 players out there. (At least that is what I've heard) They now tend to look more at your kill/death ratio as a sign of how good you are. I'll usually have a look at that ratio whenever a new player joins our group play to get an idea whether I should run like a wimp, er, tactically withdraw, or engage in a firefight. But mostly I just drop dead from the shot I never saw coming. Carlos.
Calvin
**Guys when a member posts about something there is no need to ridicule him. He has a valid post about a scoring system in a game. Please continue discussion normally without the smart comment* Exactly. Rudeness like what was shown in this thread will not be tolerated here in this forum. You guys know better. As for the rankings, I know most people here don't use them - for most games. Between bugs & different ways to exploit said game - it's just more fun to play with friends. Though I do hope we can get some clan support going here eventually.

I assume some other response was edited out but then Calvin says "guys" making me think this was directed at my post too. There was nothing remotely rude about my post. I was just being goofy in an effort to seek out a more detailed explaination as to what the original post was about.
Calvin
I meant "guys" in general. I didn't single out anyone specifically...
EnemaEms
OK, everyone take one step back....now take a deep breath.....OK....feel better? Now how about we get back to talkin' some games. -Dean-
Robot Monkey
By the by, it's my understanding that it is "Elo" not "ELO" because it isn't an abbreviation, it's the named after a Prof. Elo who developed the ranking system for chess as Dumas pointed out. Here's a wiki page with more info, including some history and formulas (I couldn't find anything on Ubi's site): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELO_rating_system -j
Chatakinns
Further googling turned up a lot of forum posts from people saying that the ELO rankings could manipulated by cheaters somehow, and the old players no longer used them as they could be innacurate due to Action Replay users abusing it. I am only guessing at this, but it reminds me of SOCOM when people would get together with a friend and kill each other off with dummy accounts on the server to raise their ranking on the leader boards. I can find no proof of this though, so I may be wrong. But, that is why most of us here tend to stick together when we do group play. We enjoy the company and get along very well. And we know who we are playing with pretty much. I know the group play games usually have a post in either the X-Box or the PS2 forum when we are going to play something online and are looking for people to join up. Check over there and see what is coming up to play.
scobeto
I never understood the rankings, or ELO (as I don't play chess). All I know is that no matter what I do, I'm at 1200..... Constantly.

dumas8199
Someone had told me there is a way to use malatov cocktails in the game...if this is true how do you do it...just lookintoget something new into this ageing game
Chris F
Someone had told me there is a way to use malatov cocktails in the game...if this is true how do you do it... It is possible, but to do so you must use a cheating device. You'll find that these devices, while technically "legal", are pretty much frowned upon by most of us here. They tend to ruin the Xbox Live experience for a lot of us.
boogieman
...But mostly I just drop dead from the shot I never saw coming. Great to know I'm not the only one employing this tactic! I quit looking at my Elo. I seem to have a good night and I get up to the 1200's and then after another game, I"m back into the 900's. Seems to happen alot. dumas8199
ok i was told i need action replay to use malatov cocktails but does any knw where i can get the save game data? like always i will appreciate any help given
Chatakinns
I guess you'd have to find someone who has it already. Cal & I don't use action replay because like Ruffneck said, most of us here don't use cheat codes or devices, and we take great delight in ragging on people who do. :green: It just takes away some of the fun of trying to get it done on our own. Even for me, and I suck at most games. :bang:
