Romier S
New Unity preview over at IGN. Light on actual game impressions and more of a history lessons but there are a few interesting tidbits. Here is the link to the preview: http://cube.ign.com/articles/433/433785p1.html An excerpt: GraphicsUnity's visuals are insane. It's almost impossible to figure out what is happening on screen. The environment is constantly shifting, whether it's the shape or swirling colors. The whole thing looks like a drug induced hallucination. Floating amongst this intense 3D environment are unidentifiable objects that you shoot down. Ultimately, Unity is an experience that must be witnessed -- it's near impossible to describe. Of course, Llamasoft hasn't released official screenshots or footage, so available media isn't of the highest quality. Outlook It's hard to peg what sort of title Unity will become. However, with two visionaries like Peter Molyneux and Jeff Minter collaborating on a title it's hard to think of it being anything less than phenomenal -- if somewhat of an underground title that akin to Sega's Rez. Taking into account Jeff Minter's background, you can also count on it being an extremely bizarre and playable game. It's reported that there won't be an official unveiling of the title until Minter is more than ready to show it off, here's hoping that Jeff deems that time is soon. Ha ha.... While I was reading that article, I kept thinking, "This sounds a lot like Rez. This should be interesting. So, has anyone seen any footage of the game in action, or at the very least, a screen shot?
dogbert
So, has anyone seen any footage of the game in action, or at the very least, a screen shot? There's some badly vidcaptured footage doing the rounds from a big "llamasoftie"/Lionhead party that Peter Molenyeaux (sp) hosted recently. It shows lots of trippy effects, lots of blasting. Exactly what people are expecting from a Minter game to be honest. Can't wait. I'll try & find a link later on.
Mark E
Notice how between games like this and Donkey Konga the Cube almost seems to be turning into a receptacle for out-there game concepts almost like the DreamCast was? Just a little something interesting to ruminate on, though I have to admit that I am a fan of this direction as I like old-school gaming but new concepts are always fun. I'd include Geist if it didn't seem so damn underwhelming .
Andy Sheets
Notice how between games like this and Donkey Konga the Cube almost seems to be turning into a receptacle for out-there game concepts almost like the DreamCast was? Which is probably why the Gamecube is tempting me to buy more than it has in the past. I probably won't get one soon since money's tight for me right now but someday... Mark E
Andy, feel free to check out Chris's thread on what games to get for his Cube if you want to hear any of us go on about the great Cube exclusive titles . If the price isn't right enough as is, those rumored price cuts could help make the sale a little softer. Don't forget to pick up your cheap copy of Eternal Darkness! Beer Monkey
Minter has about 8 months of serious development done on the game; with about 12 months to go. Don't look for this before fall 2K4. I'm betting Thanksgiving. I'll be buying, whenever.
Chris
It does sound a lot like Rez, which is a very good thing. Something to look forward to. The Gamecube is the perfect platform, as the Wavebird would definitely add to the chill-out factor. Crank the stereo up, kick back and relax. dogbert
The best place for information isn't the Lionhead website, it's the Llamasoft forum

kelley
Yum. wonder if the disc is dipped in acid, so you just lick the disc then put it into the cube and enjoy.

Romier S
So is there any explanation as to why evil sperm are attacking the spaceship in this psychedelic world? Do we really need one :green: ? As long as it is a quality experience ala Tempest the world will be a fine fine place.
secretvampire
Do we really need one? I did not question the need for it, only if one exists. On a more serious note, this game does look pretty cool. I'm all for a psychedelic version of "Innerspace"!
Beer Monkey
This is my most awaited GCN game.
dogbert
So is there any explanation as to why evil sperm are attacking the spaceship in this psychedelic world? It's a Yak game. That explains everything. Have to say that Jeff Minter is a bit of an influence on why I do what I do for a living. I loved his games, the weirdness & sheer fun of them, and all that combined with his enthusiasm for programming & gaming in general was very contagious.
